STANNAH URGES LIFT OWNERS TO PREPARE FOR PSTN SWITCHOVER
Stannah Lifts is urging businesses and facility managers to upgrade their lift communication systems to ensure they are ready for the U.K.'s new Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) digital network ahead of the switchover from the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN). Failing to update lift communication systems ahead of the switchover could lead to safety risks and non-compliance as lifts must have a working emergency phone system in compliance with EN 81-28. The nationwide transition to digital networks, led by Openreach, is well underway, with full migration expected to be complete by 2027 ā€” a 13-month extension from the original deadline. GSM is a cost-effective alternative to PSTN and requires no physical phone line, observed Stannah, which offers a managed SIM service to customers looking to upgrade to GSM. GSM incorporates a battery backup to ensure continual operation during power outages.

ZIEHL-ABEGG REPORTS BRIGHT OUTLOOK FOR 2025
Ziehl-Abegg reported revenues of EUR893 million (US$966 million) for 2024, a drop of roughly 7% compared to the previous year. The downturn was particularly pronounced in Germany, where revenues declined by more than 20%. Other European markets also fell short of expectations. In contrast, business in North and South America saw strong growth, and Asia posted a modest increase. Additionally, there were no layoffs; reduced capacity was managed through temporary staffing and short-time work. In total, the company's headcount outside of Germany increased from 5,000 to 5,300 employees, while staffing levels at the company's three German locations remained steady at 2,800. By the end of 2024, Ziehl-Abegg recorded a noticeable uptick in incoming orders. A key driver behind this momentum is the construction of new data centers ā€“ most notably in the U.S., but also in Asia. This positive development is also reflected in staffing: Since the start of the year, more than 200 temporary workers have been added in Germany alone. Demand for energy-efficient solutions in data centers is booming. Operators in the U.S. and Asia are increasingly turning to Ziehl-Abegg's high-performance fans to boost energy efficiency in their facilities. This trend is fueling optimism for 2025.
