U.K.-based Shorts has announced a new partnership with Metron, one of Europe's fastest-growing lift manufacturers. Based in Greece, Metron is known for designing and producing high-quality, value-for-money passenger lifts that combine modern aesthetics with proven engineering performance. As Metron's official U.K. partner, Shorts will manage import logistics and duties, simplifying procurement for lift companies. Customers will also benefit from U.K.-based technical support, ensuring faster response times, with additional assistance available from Metron's engineering team in Greece when required. To further support U.K. installers and maintainers, Shorts will stock a wide range of Metron spare parts in its Bradford warehouse. GREECE MINISTER URGES CITIZENS TO COMPLETE ELEVATOR REGISTRY
Greece Development Minister Takis Theodorikakos has called on citizens to participate in the national elevator census, describing it as "an important process for everyone's safety," ekathimerini.com reports. The registration process is mandatory, free of charge and available online until November 30. Each elevator entered into the system will receive a unique registration number, required for legal and safe operation. Information needed for registration is the year of installation, number of stops, operating status, certification and property registration number. Missing data can be marked as "unknown" or "temporarily unavailable." Failure to register by the deadline will result in fines, and unregistered lifts may be sealed. PROBLEMS MOUNT FOR PENCIL-THIN NYC SUPERTALL 432 PARK AVENUE
The cracking and crumbling façade of 432 Park Avenue, a supertall, pencil-thin residential tower on Billionaires' Row in Manhattan, NY, points to larger problems that engineers say could lead to mechanical systems and elevators failing, outlets including the Daily Mail reported in October. Designed by Rafael Viñoly and developed by CIM Group and Macklowe Properties, the 1,396-ft-tall structure has been home to several celebrities among other high-net-worth individuals, and its problematic elevators, which have malfunctioned, shut down during high winds and trapped residents, were part of a lawsuit filed by residents last year. The skyscraper, which opened only 10 years ago, is now covered in "cracks and cavities" due to its white concrete façade that experts say is sensitive to wind and rain. Some fear the skyscraper could start raining debris on the streets below, and that the property could eventually be abandoned. According to The New York Times, the building is facing a US$160 million repair for its façade. The building's 84 stories are served by 11 Schindler elevators.
