CHICAGO ELEVATOR ASSOCIATION CELEBRATES THE SEASON
The Chicago Elevator Association (CEA) held its annual Christmas Party on December 4 at The Copper Oak Event Space in River Grove, Illinois, welcoming 65 members to a warm gathering. Guests enjoyed a Mediterranean-inspired dinner and live entertainment from the Duneland Jazz Collective, which set a festive yet intimate mood. FAIN ACQUIRES ACCEL TO BECOME IRELAND'S NO. 1 LIFT SERVICE PROVIDER
FAIN Group, headquartered in Spain with a presence across Europe and more than 100,000 lifts under maintenance globally, on December 12 announced it acquired Accel Lifts Ltd., one of Ireland's most reputable independent lift installation and maintenance companies. Marking a major expansion for FAIN in Ireland, the move brings Accel and Doyle Lifts (acquired by FAIN in 2023) under one umbrella and gives FAIN Ireland the country's top market position. Accel was founded by Managing Director David Bourke and is based in Dublin, with more than 1,600 lifts under maintenance, primarily across Dubin and Leinster. Read more here

ESI PARTNERS WITH SKYLINE IN NYC TO INSTALL FIRST-OF-ITS-KIND CONTROLLER
Elevator Systems, LLC (ESI) recently partnered with Skyline Elevators to install its first ES2 traction controller for 500 ft/min speed elevators with an Elgo Absolute Positioning System at 250 West 49th Street in Midtown Manhattan. The Skyline team installed two elevators serving 30 landings at the 28-story residential tower, designed by S. Weider Architect and developed by Chess Builders. Read more here
 
EAOF HOSTS LARGEST ANNUAL EVENT EVER IN CAPE CANAVERAL
The Elevator Association of Florida (EAOF) hosted its largest-ever Annual General Meeting (AGM) and golf tournament in Cape Canaveral, Florida, on December 8-9 featuring education, networking and fundraising. On December 8, approximately 120 golfers gathered at the Space Coast Golf Club, while the AGM took place at the Hampton Inn & Suites Cape Canaveral Cruise Port on December 9, drawing more than 70 elevator industry professionals. IN MEMORIAM: DOROTHY SYBERT
Dorothy Sybert, who with her husband Milton Sybert built a thriving Chicagoland business, C.J. Anderson & Co., passed away on December 6 at age 85 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Dorothy Sybert considered the employees of C.J. Anderson her second family. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Milton, whom she met while working as a secretary at Union Tank Car Co. in Chicago. Dorothy, Milton and their family created a lifetime of memories at their beloved lake house in northern Wisconsin, and in retirement traveled the world. In their later years, Dorothy and Tom Sybert made their home in Northbrook, Illinois, where they formed deep and lasting friendships. Dorothy Sybert's survivors include children, Alan and Tom; brother, Gregory; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many other family members and friends, including in the elevator industry. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you perform a loving random act of kindness in memory of both Dorothy and Milton.

ECNY ANNOUNCES 2026 SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
Elevator Conference of New York (ECNY) announces and invites applications for its 2026 Scholarship Program. The association is offering at least two US$5,000 scholarships to high school seniors who are graduating in 2026, with the possibility of additional scholarships in various amounts if more than 10 applications are received. Eligibility is open to any daughter, son, stepchild or grandchild of an ECNY member in good standing, and the deadline for submissions is March 14, 2026. Read more here
 
HYPERION SOLUTIONS WELCOMES NEW CFO WRIGHT
Hyperion Solutions welcomed Josh Wright as its new chief financial officer (CFO), effective December 1. Based in the Charlotte, North Carolina, area, Wright joins the elevator industry and Hyperion from CPI Security and American Tire Distributors, where he handled financial planning and analysis. He holds a master's degree in finance from Indiana University Southeast and completed Wharton Executive Education's Emerging CFO Program. In addition to overseeing Hyperion's finances, Wright will support the continued growth of the Hyperion Business System, a structured approach to business that uses Lean tools and measurable performance targets to improve efficiency across every business unit. Hyperion observed that Wright "brings extensive experience leading financial teams that support growth, performance and operational discipline."

MITSUBISHI LAUNCHES AT-MOD MODERNIZATION SOLUTION
The Elevator and Escalator Division of Mitsubishi Electric US, Inc., headquartered in Cypress, California, has launched the AT-MOD modernization package, an advanced modernization solution designed to enhance building vertical-transportation systems while preserving major existing components that may otherwise be prohibitively costly to replace. The AT-MOD package allows building owners to improve the reliability, efficiency and performance of their elevators by integrating Mitsubishi Electric's latest modernization technology with existing system components. SCHINDLER TAKES X8 ELEVATOR ON EUROPEAN TOUR
After making a splash at Milan Design Week in Italy in April, Swiss OEM Schindler is taking its X8 elevator on a European tour, showcasing two fully operational units and inviting architects, designers, urban planners and homeowners "to experience firsthand what Schindler calls a "new era of vertical mobility," designboom reported and Schindler announced. Following Milan Design Week, Schindler brought the X8 to the Global Elevator Exhibition in Milan in November. Read more here

PITTSBURGH OFFICE DEEPENS METRO ELEVATOR'S MID-ATLANTIC FOOTPRINT
Metro Elevator recently deepened its Mid-Atlantic footprint with a new office in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, led by President Walt Czekaj and Vice President (VP) Joshua West, described as "exceptional industry veterans rooted in operational excellence and customer partnership." Czekaj has extensive experience in service, sales and territory operation. He joins Metro Elevator after a more than 12-year career with Schindler, where he held roles including VP of territory operations, area service operations manager and general manager (GM) — service, all in the Pittsburgh area. West joins Metro Elevator from Otis, where his roles included GM and regional sales manager for greater Pittsburgh over nearly seven years. Previously, West held senior sales roles with KONE in Florida, North Carolina and Pittsburgh.
 
 U.K.'S LEEA HONORS 10 IN SEVENTH LEEA AWARDS CEREMONY
The U.K.'s Lifting Equipment Engineers Association (LEEA) recently held the seventh LEEA Awards at Liverpool's iconic Anfield stadium, with the 450 people in attendance almost doubling that of the first awards. During the award ceremony, 10 awards were given: Emerging Talent Award, sponsored by Technical Integrated Services LDA: Rory Stewart of Europa Engineering Group; Excellence in People Development: SCE Academy, Street Cranexpress Ltd.; and Technical Excellence and Professionalism Award: Justin Powers, Select Plant Hire. EIGHT UNITS BY TEI FOR CHILDREN'S MUSEUM OF MANHATTAN
TEI Group tells ELEVATOR WORLD it is working with Shawmut Design & Construction to provide eight units — four elevators and four dumbwaiters — for the Children's Museum of Manhattan (CMOM) in NYC, slated to open in several years at 361 Central Park West. Designed by FXCollaborative, the CMOM is a US$300-million project that repurposes a century-old church overlooking Central Park, according to New York YIMBY. Read more here

TÜD SÜD, a global leader in testing, inspection and certification, achieved National Accreditation Board for Certification Bodies (NABCB) accreditation to inspect and certify lifts in India. SAN FRANCISCO REZONING TO ALLOW TALL BUILDINGS ADVANCES
San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie's Family Zoning Plan, a sweeping rezoning initiative that would see buildings rise from 20 to 60 stories across large swathes of the city, passed with a 7-4 Board of Supervisors vote on December 2 despite strong opposition, The San Francisco Standard reported. Ultimately, the measure aims to add approximately 3,600 homes by 2031 to meet state housing mandates. The four city supervisors who voted "no" fear displacement and neighborhood disruption in the historically low-density north and west sides. Read more here

TEI MODERNIZES 20, INSTALLS TWO ELEVATORS AT BRONX COURTHOUSE
TEI Group tells ELEVATOR WORLD it recently modernized 20 and installed two elevators at the historic Bronx County Courthouse, also known as the Mario Merola Building, at 851 Grand Concourse in Bronx, NY. Designed by architects Joseph H. Freelander and Max Hausle in the Art Deco style, the nine-story limestone building was built between 1931 and 1934, according to Wikipedia. It has four identical sides, an interior court and a frieze designed by sculptor Charles Keck. The building also features sculptures by noted sculptors George Holburn Snowden and Joseph Kiselewski. Housing all municipal Bronx borough functions, the building sits two blocks southeast of Yankee Stadium.
 
 ESCALATOR WORK SLOW-GOING FOR CMRL IN SOUTHERN INDIA
At least seven stations along Chennai Metro Rail Ltd.'s (CMRL) Phase I network, spanning more than 45 km and serving key areas in southern India, still lack escalators in upward or downward directions, The Hindu reports. Since 2023 when CMRL acknowledged the problem, it has installed only 22 of a planned 55 elevators. CMRL officials attribute the slow pace of installation to the fact that work can only be done when there is no passenger movement between midnight and 4 a.m., and aim to complete work by February 2026.
