Read more here | | | SCHINDLER: LOCAL SOURCING MEANS NO U.S. STEEL TARIFF HIT | | | Paolo Compagna, CEO of Switzerland-based Schindler, told Reuters in February that most of what the company manufactures at its plants in North Carolina and Pennsylvania uses materials that are sourced and produced domestically. That means there will be no impact from steel tariffs in the U.S. for Schindler's U.S. plants. Schindler projects revenue from its North American modernization business to grow by 5% to 10% this year, with global revenue projected to grow in the low single digits as construction activity remains slow. Read more here | | | KONE TO PROVIDE ESCALATORS FOR PARIS METRO EXTENSION | | | KONE announced on April 3 it won an order to provide at least 84 escalators for five suburban stations on line 15 West of the Grand Paris Express Metro network. Driven by Société des grands projects, line 15 will span 14 municipalities, forming a ring around Paris. KONE will equip the six-story La Défense Station — situated in Europe's largest business district and accommodating up to 160,000 daily riders — with 40 escalators. Read more here | | | OTIS SECURES 29-UNIT MODERNIZATION CONTRACT IN SWEDEN | | | Otis has secured a contract to modernize 29 escalators for A-Train AB, the operator of the Arlanda Express, which connects the Stockholm, Sweden, city center to Arlanda Airport. The project, starting in September 2025, will upgrade the 30-year-old escalators, which were originally installed by Otis in the 1990s. Schürholz has more than 30 years' experience in various finance departments at companies including Haniel Group, Douglas, Escada and the SAG Group. Most recently, he served as CFO for CABB Group. Read more here | | | ORONA REALIZES SIGNIFICANT GROWTH AMID CHALLENGES | Hernani, Spain-headquartered Orona, Europe's fifth-largest vertical-transportation (VT) provider now covering 13 countries, announced on April 11 it realized significant growth in earnings in a challenging 2024 environment. EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes and depreciation and amortization) reached EUR168 million (US$190.1 million), surpassing previous years. To maintain its prominent position in the VT sector, Orona continues to invest in new technologies and R&D, allocating EUR18 million (US$20.3 million) in 2024 toward those efforts. "Faced with an increasingly volatile and complex global context, the cooperative remains steadfast in its commitment to continuing to shape a robust and competitive business partnership in Europe" to address future challenges, Orona stated. Read more here | | | ZIEHL-ABEGG REPORTS BRIGHT OUTLOOK FOR 2025 | Ziehl-Abegg reported revenues of €893 million (US$966 million) for 2024, a drop of roughly 7% compared to the previous year. The downturn was particularly pronounced in Germany, where revenues declined by more than 20%. Other European markets also fell short of expectations. In contrast, business in North and South America saw strong growth, and Asia posted a modest increase. Additionally, there were no layoffs; reduced capacity was managed through temporary staffing and short-time work. Schindler R.I.S.E is a self-climbing robot that is designed to maneuver itself within a building's lift shaft to install elevator components. The roundtable gave attendees the chance to meet and talk with members of the French lift sector, its small and medium-sized enterprises and its workers, as well as entities involved with the sector. Read more here | | | ELEVATOR INCIDENT IN MUNICH LEAVES WOMAN INJURED | An 82-year-old woman in Munich, Germany, recently sustained serious injuries after becoming trapped in an elevator, The Munich Eye reports. Reports indicate that the woman fell while attempting to enter the lift, and the elevator ascended before she could regain her footing, causing her legs to be stuck between the cabin and the shaft.
