ELEVATOR WORLD’S sixth annual Product of the Year Award recognizes outstanding product development achievements of manufacturers whose products are considered particularly noteworthy or innovative. The product(s) should represent any of the following qualities: a significant advancement in a technology or its application, an exceptionally innovative design, a substantial achievement in price/performance, improvements in design performance and a potential for new product designs/opportunities. SUBMIT YOUR PROJECT FOR THE EW PROJECT OF THE YEAR AWARDS
Submissions are now being accepted for the ELEVATOR WORLD 29th Annual Project of the Year Awards. We are seeking submissions of projects featuring vertical, horizontal or inclined transportation systems with an innovative design, special application or approach that solved a major problem or overcame a unique challenge. Projects will be judged on innovation, originality and creativity, challenges overcome, installation methods and techniques and use of advanced technology, as well as overall quality of presentation. This year’s categories are Elevators, New Construction; Elevators, Modernization; Escalators, New Construction; Escalators, Modernization; Moving Walks; Inclined Elevators; Platform Lifts & Stairway Chairlifts; Private-Residence Elevators; and Special-Purpose Lifts. All entries will be judged and categorized as received by an impartial panel of experienced industry experts and professionals. Winning entries will be published in the January 2027 issue of ELEVATOR WORLD. Winners in each category will be acknowledged with an award of recognition. The submission deadline is September 2. |

AXXIOM ELEVATOR ACQUIRES CAROLINA ELEVATOR SERVICE
Axxiom Elevator, a leading provider of elevator maintenance, repair, modernization and installation, has acquired Carolina Elevator Service, Inc., a Columbia, South Carolina-based provider of commercial elevator services across South Carolina, North Carolina and Georgia, Maven Group, which served as M&A advisor, announced on July 28. The acquisition marks Axxiom's entry into the Carolinas and Georgia and is the company's 13th acquisition since its founding in 2023. The company is now present in Arizona, California, Florida, Texas, the Washington, D.C., area, and now, the Carolinas and Georgia. Carolina Elevator owners Wayne Brindle, Brent Goings, Cary Goings and Stephanie Hoopaugh will continue to lead the team alongside a talented group of mechanics. Brindle and Hoopaugh thanked Maven Group's Carson Bombara for "going above and beyond" in bringing the complex transaction "across the finish line."
REULAND ELECTRIC MOTOR CO. PARENT COMPANY ACQUIRES MAC
OnCore Motor Group, the California-headquartered parent company of Reuland Electric Motor Co., has acquired Motor Appliance Corp. (MAC), based in Washington, Missouri, Reuland announced on July 21. The acquisition unites two American manufacturers with complementary custom motor, power electronics and vertically integrated product capabilities. Founded in 1937, Reuland has built its 89-year reputation by engineering and manufacturing durable electric motors for demanding applications including elevators, cranes, movable bridges, marine and shipboard equipment. SCHINDLER SEES OPPORTUNITIES IN KONE-TKE MERGER
Swiss OEM Schindler sees opportunities in the KONE-TK Elevator (TKE) merger, including gaining customers and employees during the integration and acquiring assets if regulators require KONE to divest them, Reuters reports, quoting Schindler CEO Paolo Compagna. The complex integration process, Compagna said, will create disruption for both customers and employees, and Schindler will be "ready to talk and see and listen" regarding any potential divestitures. Evan Rahey announced he has joined Vidatech, a Quebec, Canada-headquartered part of the Dewhurst Group that develops innovative emergency-communication solutions for the elevator industry, as vice president (VP) of Sales, North America. Rahey's professional background includes serving as a senior regional sales manager for Rath-Janus Elevator Products, based in NYC, and as a product line and Technical Sales manager for Wurtec, also in the NYC area. ATTA ELEVATORS WELCOMES DEWAILLY AS ACCOUNT MANAGER IN TEXAS
ATTA Elevators recently welcomed Alyssa Dewailly as an account manager based in Converse, Texas, near San Antonio. A recent graduate of the University of Texas at San Antonio, Dewailly joins the elevator industry after having served as a research assistant at Retina Consultants of Texas. After four years as a Service Operations superintendent with TK Elevator (TKE) in Manhattan, John Mazzie has joined NYC-headquartered TEI Group as Maintenance manager, TEI and Mazzie announced this month. Mazzie said he is grateful for the "opportunities, experiences and relationships that helped me grow both personally and professionally" at TKE. Prior to his vertical-transportation industry career, Mazzie served as lighting project manager for Broadway National in Ronkonkoma, NY, and a lighting design and proposal engineer with Johnson Controls in the NYC area. OTIS 2Q EARNINGS: SERVICE SALES ACHIEVE GREATEST GROWTH SINCE SPINOFF
In a July 22 call discussing Otis' second quarter (2Q) earnings, Chair, President and CEO Judy Marks said she expects strong growth in service — modernization, repair and maintenance — as well as robust backlog in both modernization and new equipment to support the OEM's "expectation for continued growth in the quarters ahead." Service sales growth — with net sales up 11% and organic sales up 9% — matched the highest level the Connecticut-based company achieved since its spinoff from United Technologies in 2020. Overall, net sales were up 7% and organic sales up 6%, with new equipment net sales flat and organic sales down 1%. Read more here

Metro Elevator recently welcomed Cynthia Garrett, a vertical-transportation industry veteran with more than 24 years' experience, as director of Modernization. She joins Metro Elevator from Schindler, where she held roles including area commercial manager and director of service/modernization projects in the NYC metropolitan area over the past six-and-a-half years. Thirty-four members of the Massachusetts Elevator Safety Association (MESA) enjoyed MESA's 2026 Boat Cruise on July 22. The Boston Belle departed from the REEL Oyster House Boston Marina for the 3-h event where business, industry and life were discussed. The next Elevator Association of Florida (EAOF) meeting will be hosted by Vasile Elevator, Inc., at the company facility at 2881 Gateway Drive in Pompano Beach, Florida, on August 11. G-TECH ELEVATORS FOR NEW SOHO RESIDENTIAL TOWER
G-Tech Elevators, based in Linden, New Jersey, tells ELEVATOR WORLD it is providing two passenger elevators for 130 Lafayette Street in Soho, Manhattan, NY, a 25-story residential tower designed by Marvel and developed by Trammell Crow. Both traveling at 500 ft/min, one elevator has 3500-lb capacity making 27 stops and the other 2500-lb capacity making 26 stops. Both have BTS Elevator Package packages with GAL door equipment, Imperial machines, Monitor fixtures and Elevator Controls controllers. New York YIMBY reports the red brick structure had passed the halfway mark ahead of anticipated completion in early 2028. The property will yield 99 rental units, 1,817 ft2 of ground-floor retail and landscaped terraces atop three setbacks on the 15th, 20th and 24th floors.
BROOKLYN LEADERS WANT MORE LOCALS FOR US$400-MILLION PROJECT
Community leaders in eastern Brooklyn, NY, want more local workers and firms hired for the revitalization of the NYC Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s (MTA) Broadway Junction subway complex, a US$400-million accessibility project that includes seven new elevators and replacement of three escalators, PIX 11 reports. At a July 23 rally, local leaders said only about 12 of the project’s estimated 170 workers are from nearby neighborhoods including Ocean Hill, Brownsville, Bushwick and East New York. THREE NEW ELEVATORS BY MODERN ELEVATOR FOR HISTORIC BROOKYLN MTA STATION
New York Gov. Kathy Hochul unveiled three new elevators at the NYC Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) Borough Hall subway station in Downtown Brooklyn on July 23 in celebration of Disability Pride Month, her office announced. MTA tells ELEVATOR WORLD that Modern Elevator manufactured and installed the units, which are part of major accessibility upgrades bringing the 118-year-old station into compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Under Hochul’s leadership, 160 stations have become fully ADA accessible. Read more here
KONE REPORTS ORDER GROWTH, MARGIN EXPANSION WITH EMEA A HIGHLIGHT
Finland-headquartered KONE reported strong growth in orders and continued margin expansion for the first half of the year, with President and CEO Philippe Delorme stating, "We delivered a strong second quarter, highlighted by order growth of more than 10%." He said the re-acceleration of modernization, with double-digit growth across all regions, is particularly encouraging. The defining event of the quarter, Delorme observed, is KONE's planned acquisition of TK Elevator. The regulatory review process is ongoing, with filings submitted in all jurisdictions, he said. Notable in the July 22 earnings report is that KONE enjoyed particularly robust new-installation business in the Asia-Pacific, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) "where activity is strong despite the geopolitical tensions." ABU DHABI UNVEILS US$27.29-BILLION MIXED-USE DEVELOPMENT
Abu Dhabi, U.A.E., has announced Marsa Al Saadiyat, a landmark AED100-billion (US$27.29-billion) mixed-use waterfront development by Aldar that will complete the Saadiyat Island masterplan and create one of the emirate's largest integrated coastal destinations. Spanning approximately 6.4 million m² along an 8-km waterfront, the development is planned to accommodate approximately 58,000 residents. From a vertical-transportation (VT) perspective, the development is expected to generate substantial demand over the coming years for elevators, escalators and moving walks across residential towers, luxury hotels, commercial buildings, retail developments, marina facilities, transport infrastructure and public space. KOREA ELEVATOR SAFETY AGENCY SIGNS AGREEMENT WITH GH
The Gyeonggi Housing and Urban Development Corp. (GH) has signed a “Business Agreement for Elevator Safety and Quality Improvement in GH Apartment Complexes” with the Korea Elevator Safety Agency at GH headquarters in Suwon, The Asia Business Daily reports. Under this agreement, the two organizations will work together to align and upgrade standards such as technology and guidelines for improving elevator safety and quality; review safety at each stage of elevator design, construction and maintenance; and cooperate in building an elevator safety management platform. |
