SUBMIT YOUR PROJECT FOR THE EW PROJECT OF THE YEAR AWARDS
|
Submissions are now being accepted for the ELEVATOR WORLD 29th Annual Project of the Year Awards. We are seeking submissions of projects featuring vertical, horizontal or inclined transportation systems with an innovative design, special application or approach that solved a major problem or overcame a unique challenge. Projects will be judged on innovation, originality and creativity, challenges overcome, installation methods and techniques and use of advanced technology, as well as overall quality of presentation. This year’s categories are Elevators, New Construction; Elevators, Modernization; Escalators, New Construction; Escalators, Modernization; Moving Walks; Inclined Elevators; Platform Lifts & Stairway Chairlifts; Private-Residence Elevators; and Special-Purpose Lifts. All entries will be judged and categorized as received by an impartial panel of experienced industry experts and professionals. Winning entries will be published in the January 2027 issue of ELEVATOR WORLD. Winners in each category will be acknowledged with an award of recognition. The submission deadline is September 2.

The product(s) should represent any of the following qualities: a significant advancement in a technology or its application, an exceptionally innovative design, a substantial achievement in price/performance, improvements in design performance and a potential for new product designs/opportunities. TKE LAUNCHES EOX REBUILD TO MODERNIZE EUROPE’S AGING ELEVATOR INFRASTRUCTURE

TK Elevator (TKE) on June 8 announced the launch of EOX Rebuild, a full replacement solution within TKE's EOX elevator family designed specifically for existing low-rise buildings. "Across Europe, we are seeing significant investment in the modernization of existing buildings as cities and property owners work to improve sustainability, safety, accessibility and quality of life," TKE Europe Africa CEO Bora Gülan said. Otis Worldwide Corp. recently announced the introduction of Otis Gen3™ MOD solutions in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA). European Federation for Elevator Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (EFESME) members gathered on June 29 virtually for the Board of Directors and General Assembly meeting. Members exchanged views on current technical and policy developments affecting the lift sector and mapped out future priorities. ITALY’S DONATI ACQUIRES SPANISH COMPANY TO STRENGTHEN EUROPEAN POSITION

Donati S.p.A., an elevator and escalator component distribution specialist headquartered in Milan, Italy, on July 8 announced the acquisition of International Elevator Commerce SL of Barcelona, Spain, strengthening its leadership in Europe. Elevator Commerce projected revenue of approximately EUR22 million (US$25.1 million) and earnings in excess of EUR3 million (US$3.4 million) for 2026. With its direct entry into Spain through Elevator Commerce — following its expansion into Germany, France, Belgium and the Netherlands — Donati takes a further step toward becoming the leading vertical-transportation component distributor in Europe. NEW 2027 DATES FOR TES DUBAI
|
Originally scheduled for September, The Elevator Show (TES) Dubai is now set to take place on March 23-25, 2027, due to current challenges in the region. The venue remains the Dubai World Trade Centre's new hall, the Trade Centre Arena. Approximately 120 exhibitors are expected for TES Dubai, organized by AFAG Messen und Austellungen, together with ELEVATOR WORLD. For the first time, the show will include The World Elevator Forum in collaboration with EW. The Forum will provide exhibitors with the opportunity to showcase their latest innovations during short presentations. Read more here

CEDES NAMES FERRI IBERIA KEY ACCOUNT MANAGER
|
|
|
|
CEDES, the Switzerland-based leader in elevator light curtains, 3D camera sensors and Internet of Things (IoT)-based systems, recently announced José Sáez Ferri as key account manager for Iberia in southwestern Europe. Ferri joins CEDES from a nearly 22-year vertical-transportation industry career with TK Elevadores S/A, where he progressed from sales engineer to account and branch manager. Schindler spotlighted third-generation vertical-transportation professional Amanda Yarger to mark International Women in Engineering Day on June 23. Yarger is an account manager for Northern California and Nevada, dealing with repair and maintenance. TKE’S NEW SUSTAINABILITY REPORT REFLECTS PROGRESS
|
On July 10, TK Elevator (TKE) published its 2024/2025 Sustainability Report, reflecting progress the Dusseldorf, Germany-headquartered OEM has made toward its sustainability priorities including climate change, circularity, safety, equal opportunities, responsible business practices and sustainable supply-chain management. The company reported that Scope 1 and 2 emissions are down 31%, and Scope 3 emissions are down 19% versus a 2019 baseline, TKE's EOX platform has reached 80% of order intake in Europe and 40% in the Americas and renewable electricity has reached 83% globally. SPAIN ELEVATOR PROJECT TO HAVE DEDICATED TECHNICIAN FOR RESIDENT INQUIRIES
|
|
|
|
Spain’s Basauri City Council has announced that June 22 will mark the start of construction for five new elevators connecting the neighborhoods of El Kalero and Basozelai, Diario Euskadi reports. During construction, a dedicated technician will be responsible for informing residents about the project's progress and addressing their inquiries, both in person and by phone. The more than EUR5 million (US$5.7 million) investment made by the City Council will ensure accessibility in the Basozelai neighborhood, whose challenging topography has historically posed difficulties, particularly for the elderly population. CEDES WELCOMES BUNTIN AS GLOBAL VP OF DIGITAL PRODUCTS
|
Switzerland-headquartered CEDES recently welcomed Jeff Buntin as global vice president (VP) of Digital Products. Based in the U.S., Buntin has three decades of elevator industry experience, most recently serving as global Digital Operations Center lead for TK Elevator (TKE). With degrees in IT and business administration from WGU Washington and Bellevue College, respectively, Buntin began his vertical-transportation industry career as an installation helper with Fujitec in the Greater Seattle area. AI COMMUNICATION AWARD 2026 HONORS PIONEERING PROJECTS IN GERMANY

Presented during Social Media Days in Germany and hosted by Ziehl-Abegg, the AI Communication Award 2026 honored five pioneering AI projects at a ceremony in the historic medieval city of Schwäbisch Hall on July 1. KONE PARTNERS ON VOCATIONAL SKILLS COMPETITION IN STOCKHOLM
|
Together with Stockholm-based higher vocational institution Zenter Botkyrka, KONE partnered with the Swedish Association of Lifts and Escalators for Yrkes-SM, a vocational skills competition for young people held in Stockholm on May 4-6. Over three days, competitions were organized in a wide range of professions including, for the first time, lifts and escalators, which saw a total of 12 competitors. Elements involved renovating a valve block, connecting an emergency phone and connecting a shaft riser, with four “incredibly skilled” technicians making it to the final — three from KONE and one from Motum Örebro. Otis recently announced the launch of the Otis LinkTM MOD suite of commercial elevator modernization solutions, giving building owners a safer, smarter and more efficient way to upgrade aging escalators.
