Ehrnrooth will continue as an executive advisor through March 2024 to ensure a smooth transition. Ehrnrooth joined KONE in 2009 as chief financial officer, assuming the roles of president and CEO in 2014. Read more here | | | NTERLIFT TO MOVE FROM AUGSBURG TO NUREMBERG STARTING IN 2025 | | | After more than 30 years in Augsburg, Germany, interlift, the world's leading trade fair for elevators held every two years, will move to Nuremberg, Germany, VFA-Interlift e.V. and AFAG Messen und Ausstellungen GmbH announced on October 12. Bringing together more than 500 exhibitors to present their products and innovations from all over the world, interlift 2023 took place at Messe Augsburg in Augsburg on October 17-20. Read more here | | | VT COMPANIES NAMED TO WORLD'S BEST EMPLOYERS LIST | Forbes recently released its seventh annual list of the World's Best Employers, and a number of vertical-transportation (VT) companies made the list including Otis, Schindler, Mitsubishi Electric and KONE. The list, which ultimately spanned 43 countries, features the 700 companies with the highest scores. Forbes partnered with market research firm Statista to determine the ranking, surveying more than 170,000 employees in more than 50 countries who work for multinational companies and institutions. Read more here | | | SCHINDLER RAISES 2023 REVENUE AND NET PROFIT FORECAST | Swiss elevator maker Schindler lifted its 2023 revenue and net profit forecast on October 19, saying its services business continued to grow while new installations declined less than the market, Reuters reports. Schindler now expects revenue growth between 6% and 8%, as well as net profit to reach between 880 million Swiss francs (US$978.54 million) and 910 million francs (US$1018.58 million) for the full year. TO STRENGTHEN U.S. POSITION | Cibes Lift Group has entered into an agreement to acquire Elevator Service Co., a full-service elevator contractor, to strengthen its position and create new business opportunities in the U.S. Following the completion of the transaction, Elevator Service Company will be a wholly owned subsidiary of Cibes Lift Group but will maintain its brand. The business will be run by newly appointed Managing Director Matthew Montgomery, previously head of Sales for Elevator Service Company. Read more here | | | KONE COMPLETES SALE OF RUSSIAN DIVISION, LEAVES COUNTRY | Finnish elevator maker KONE has completed the sale of its Russian operations to S8 Capital, a Russian holding company that has acquired assets from several departing Western firms, Reuters reports. "The transaction has been approved by the relevant authorities and the closing of the deal means that KONE is now fully divested from Russia," KONE said in a statement. The value of the transaction was not disclosed. Read more here | | | IN MEMORIAM: VIKTOR KONSTANTINOVICH KHRISTICH | Longtime ELEVATOR WORLD Russia Correspondent Viktor Konstantinovich Khristich passed away at age 78 on October 24 after a long illness. His colleague, friend and fellow EW Russia Correspondent Yury Kireev said: "[Khristich] was an outstanding [vertical-transportation] designer and talented organizer. Under his leadership, projects for various lifting machines and mechanisms were developed. The largest of these included an aggregate for the lifting and evacuation of cosmonauts for the launch of the spacecraft at the Baikonur Cosmodrome and the the floating water gate's frame and the drive for a 200-m-wide shipping pass at the Saint Petersburg Flood Prevention Facility complex. One of his main areas of focus was escalators. The ETX escalator (Tunnel Escalator of Khristich) received first prize in EW's Project of the Year competition in the Escalators, New Construction category. Articles by Khristich and myself on the topic of escalators were often published in EW. [May] the kingdom of heaven [be granted] to him and eternal peace to his soul." | | | CTBUH BEST TALL BUILDING EUROPE IS SWEDEN'S SARA KULTURHUS | The Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) named Sara Kulturhus in Skellefteå, Sweden, the Best Tall Building, Europe, as part of CTBUH's 2023 Award of Excellence program at the annual international conference in Singapore and Kuala Lumpur on October 16-20. Read more here | | | CiA INVITES DISCUSSION ON CANOPEN AND AI AT SPS TRADESHOW | The nonprofit CAN in Automation (CiA) association invites discussion about AI and CANopen at its booth at the SPS (Smart Production Solutions) tradeshow in Nuremberg, Germany, on November 14-16. CANopen Lift is the CAN communication platform for elevator control systems. In the CiA November newsletter, CiA Managing Director Holger Zeltwanger explains how AI — the theory and development of computer systems able to perform tasks that normally require human intelligence — was introduced in the 1950s in a workshop at Dartmouth College.
