Loved it, but if you’re the kind of person who has ever given a review about a movie being “too slow,” this one is not for you. We’re suckers for quiet meditational character movies. Especially when the character is a hired killer. The Bikeriders. Austin Butler and Tom Hardy in a biker gang. (Theaters) Silent Night. Even though the trailer doesn’t seem all that silent. Our partner witnessed it happen from the opposite end of the couch. So lately, we’ve been hip-thrusting at her down our hallway, chanting “pecan” [thrust], “pie” [thrust], “pecan” [thrust], “pie” [thrust]. Grill up a shareable steak board. Do some Nashville hot chicken. On a sandwich. Cook spaghetti squash to al dente pasta-like perfection. Bust out a holiday classic: Swedish meatballs. Make a Sicilian pizza, American style. To which we started to reply. Then, stopped. Then, thought harder. Then, replied, “Because that’s what adults do.” We’ve been tempted to google why you should trim your wicks. But we’ve resisted that urge. Sometimes, it’s satisfactory to know only a sliver of the truth. It’s time to hang those Christmas lights. Don’t stress.
