On November 30, workers noticed the northside elevator shaft for the 10-story mixed-use project was tilting to the south so work was stopped and nearby buildings were evacuated until the next day. The construction elevator fell 20 m with five people inside, according to U.S. News & World Report. "The crime classification in the ongoing preliminary investigation is work environment crime including causing the death of another," Sweden's Prosecution Authority said in a statement. According to a press release from Alimak Group, the hoist used in the accident is an Alimak Scando 650, a standard lift used on construction sites to transport passengers and materials at height. It has been manufactured in the thousands and used on construction sites every day all over the world for the past 20 years. Upon installation of the hoist, a safety protocol is provided with clear instructions. The protocol also includes daily safety checks to ensure the lift is working as intended before it is put into service. "In the 20 years that this model has been in use, we have never experienced anything like this. Seven years after the original draft, the project has recently received its building permit, and is expected to be completed by 2026. Designed by Powerhouse Co. and measuring 159 m in height, the new tower aims to become a focal point in Baan Quarter. The high-rise will house 427 apartments available for rent. From street level, the residential tower opens toward public space with a range of amenities open for inhabitants and passers-by. A cantilever forms a 25-m-tall gateway linking the ensemble with neighboring buildings. Clad in black marble, the high-rise development opens with ample views toward the city. On-site amenities include a rooftop pool and terrace with space for leisure activities such as yoga classes, a gym, a sauna or a stroll in the green rooftop park.
