With more than 20 years' experience in the vertical-transportation industry, Riva joined TKE Italy in 2008 following an acquisition, where he first held the position of commercial manager (2014), then chief operating officer (2018), with responsibilities for both sales and operations. Read more here | | | 2N SELECTED BY SCHMERSAL ITALY FOR ROME METRO LIFT EMERGENCY-CALL SYSTEM | | | Schmersal Italy selected a lift emergency-call system from 2N Telekomunikace a.s. for lifts and escalators on the A and B lines of the Rome Metro. The oldest underground train network in Italy, the Rome Metro opened in 1955. When it was time to upgrade all 24 lifts and 10 escalators serving the A and B lines, Schmersal Italy was tapped to install a modular emergency call system. Read more here | | | PLC PARTNERS WITH SAFELINE FOR SAFER LINE OF EMERGENCY COMMUNICATIONS | | | The U.K.'s Platform Lift Company (PLC) has partnered with SafeLine, a Swedish company that manufactures open protocol safety accessories for lifts, to ensure that all emergency auto-dialers currently installed within platform lifts are upgraded to digital ahead of the analog switch-off at the end of 2025. PLC is using SafeLine's advanced 4G VoLTE products to upgrade existing auto-dialers installed in disability lifts across the U.K. and Ireland to digital. Read more here | | | ALIMAK GROUP CONSIDERS CONSOLIDATING ASSEMBLY ACTIVITY | Stockholm, Sweden-headquartered Alimak Group is considering consolidating assembly activity in Mammendorf, Germany, to its manufacturing facility in Madrid, Spain, as part of an effort to deliver significantly improved margins in its FaƧade Access division. Torre de Collserola is served by two elevators. Read more here | | | BIG UNVEILS DESIGN FOR RESIDENTIAL DEVELOPMENT IN GREECE | Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) has revealed the design of Park Rise residences, a new development in the Little Athens neighborhood of Ellinikon, Greece, featuring modern homes, greenspace, retail, office and hospitality, ArchDaily reports. The Ellinikon is an ambitious urban regeneration project ā and Europe's largest ā that reimagines the grounds of Athens' old international airport and transforms it into a 6.2 million-m2 smart city. Read more here | | | WARSAW OFFICE COMPLEX PROJECT RECEIVES SECOND-PHASE INVESTMENT | Sweden-based development company Skanska has invested EUR100 million (US$109 million) in the second phase of Studio, an office complex in Warsaw, Poland. Located in the Wola district, the 27-story building will have approximately 26,600 m2 of leasable area. Read more here | | | SCHINDLER VT EQUIPMENT FOR DEVELOPMENT THAT INCLUDES NEW BRATISLAVA LANDMARK | Schindler tells ELEVATOR WORLD it provided vertical-transportation (VT) equipment for Eurovea City, a mixed-use master-planned development on the Danube River in the Slovakian capital of Bratislava that includes Slovakia's tallest building and a new city landmark: the 168-m, 46-story Eurovea Tower. Developer J&T Real Estate announced on November 7 the tower, which boasts nearly 400 residences, had received usage approval ahead of handover in spring 2024. Read more here | | | CALL FOR ABSTRACTS FOR CTBUH 2024 INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE | The Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Development (CTBUH) has issued a call for abstracts for the CTBUH 2024 International Conference to be held in London and Paris on September 23-27. The conference is titled "New or Renew: Addressing the Density Dilemma," which refers to the choice between new building and cities or the adaptation of those existing for the sake of environmental, economic and social responsibility. Read more here | | | CTBUH 2023 BEST TALL BUILDING WORLDWIDE IS PAST EW POY WINNER QUAY QUARTER TOWER IN SYDNEY | The Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) named Sydney, Australia's Quay Quarter Tower as the 2023 Best Tall Building Worldwide during CTBUH's annual conference in Singapore and Kuala Lumpur on October 16-21. At 50 Bridge Street tower, the 45-story structure was redeveloped starting in 2018 with architect 3XN, vertical-transportation (VT) consultant ARUP and VT provider Schindler, which changed the lifts from conventional-control single-deck lifts to double decks with advanced destination dispatch. Read more here | | | OTIS' SBTi GHG COMMITMENT ADDS TO ESG OBJECTIVES | On November 9, Otis Worldwide Corp. announced its commitment to setting near-term, science-based greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction targets, formally submitting its plan to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) for evaluation. Representing a significant addition to Otis' existing Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) objectives, the submission includes proposed GHG emission reduction targets for Scopes 1, 2 and 3 against a 2021 baseline. Read more here | | | KONE REPORTS BOOST IN Q3 ORDERS FROM CHINA | KONE reported better than expected new orders for the third quarter, boosted by strong momentum in Chinese orders, Reuters reports. The company, which makes around a third of its sales in China, saw orders received fall by 7.7% to EUR1.99 billion (US$2.10 billion) in Q3, but beat analysts' estimate of EUR1.98 billion (US$2.08 billion) in a company-provided poll. CHAIR TO STEP DOWN | Hyundai Group Chairwoman Hyun Jeong-eun will step down in December as chair of the board of directors at the group's elevator unit to help improve its governance structure, the company has announced, Yonhap News Agency reports. Hyun tendered her resignation from the chair position of Hyundai Elevator Co. at the company's board meeting, the company said in a statement.
