REPAIR WORK ON THAILAND RAIL SYSTEM VT UNDERWAY The State Railway of Thailand is working to repair the vertical transportation (VT) along the Red Line commuter rail system after a recent inspection found that 47 of the 228 escalators installed and 22 of the elevators installed were not working, the Bangkok Post reports. A printed sign in the elevator reads, "Please knock and tell them what floor you are at." A Denver Fire Department spokesperson said the process has been approved to keep the elevator operational while repairs are underway. Illustrated with several photos from a recent elevator rescue, the FD reminds the public to call 911 or use the emergency phone in the elevator if the unit becomes stalled, and the ladder company and rescue company will be dispatched. Read more here | | 280-M SHANGHAI TOWER COMPLETED Ole Scheeren has completed the first of two towers for the Axiom development in The Springs in the center of the Yangpu district in Shanghai, China, Building Design reports. The two buildings will contain more than 2 million ft2 of office, hotel, retail and cultural spaces including a theatre. The design includes a 49-story building rising to 280 m, as well as a 250-m building that is currently being built. The Axiom will have an offset core as opposed to the more standard central core, with the tower's lifts and services protruding out of the building's façade. This feature, seen in just 3% of the world's tallest 500 buildings, aims to maximize internal space and allow large, unobstructed floorplates that can be adapted to the demands of occupiers.
