Read more here | | | VERTICAL BUILDING EXTENSION METHOD LAUNCHES IN THE U.K. | U.K. cities could soon be sprouting upward with new "timber canopies" following the launch of Optoppen – a viability tool intended to spread the practice of extending existing buildings vertically, Architects' Journal reports. The 3D webapp was created by design firm Mule Studio and engineer Whitby Wood as part of a wider online platform, Optoppen.org. The free-to-use app includes policy information and case studies from cities such as Amsterdam, Barcelona and London, where bio-based materials have been used to create low-carbon floorspace or housing. Read more here | | | SCHINDLER TO PROVIDE ELEVATORS FOR CAIRO NAC PROJECT | Cairo, Egypt-based MGB Developments announced on November 11 it has inked an agreement with Schindler to provide elevators for the new PUKKA residential project in Cairo's New Administrative Capital (NAC). The agreement includes the installation, operation and maintenance of an unspecified number of energy-efficient elevators. Read more here | | | OTIS VT SYSTEM FOR "ARCHITECTURAL MARVEL" IN KUALA LUMPUR | Otis announced on December 3 it won an order to provide the vertical-transportation (VT) system for the 68-story Dawn KLCC mixed-use building in the center of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Awarded by Chin Hin Group Property, the order includes seven SkyRise® and three Arise™ elevators. Scheduled for completion in 2029, "this architectural marvel will feature lifestyle suites, luxury serviced residences and a vibrant sky bar offering breathtaking view of the Kuala Lumpur city center," Otis observed. Read more here | | | AUTONOMOUS ROBOT COMPLETES 110,000-PLUS ELEVATOR RIDES | Diligent Robotics recently announced that its flagship product, Moxi the Robot, has completed 110,000 autonomous elevator rides and counting at health systems across the U.S., Robotics Tomorrow reports. Moxi has a humanoid form factor, with an arm for manipulating the environment, opening doors and pushing elevator buttons. Moxi is the only robot to accomplish this feat in a generalized way that is working 24/7 in U.S. hospitals.
