Within a year, his commitment to safety and effective leadership led to the EHS leadership role. In addition to Luraschi's contributions at TEI's NYC headquarters, he has been instrumental in upholding safety within the company's growing Southeast region. "His hands-on approach to safety training and his ability to relate to the field have strengthened both compliance and buy-in at all levels," TEI Executive Vice President Southeast Chad Posey said. | | | | AFFORDABLE HOUSING TOWER PLANNED IN WEST VILLAGE | | | The Hudson Mosaic; image courtesy of The Hudson Mosaic Development Team | | The Hudson Mosaic, a 100%-affordable, 280-unit, 35-story tower with a vast NYC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) recreation center, is planned at 388 Hudson Street on a lot owned by the NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) in the West Village's Hudson Square, dezeen was among outlets to report in December 2025. This year, he said, is distinguished by "an active pipeline and continued interest in growth via mergers and acquisitions by a multitude of elevator industry consolidators and investors." Highlights of 2025 include two former Maven customers joining forces: NYC's TEI Group acquired Taka, a Florida-based, non-union company, under the wing of a unionized buyer based in NYC. Maven served as advisor to TEI, as it had previously during TEI's landmark transaction with Anlev in 2020. In that case, Anlev's parent company Analogue Holdings Ltd. made a significant equity investment in TEI. Additional highlights of 2025, Sachsenheimer said, were assisting repeat client Urban Elevator in a transaction with Otis that included eight branch offices in eight states and serving as an advisor to Indianapolis "legend" Ron Selke and his family in the sale of Mid-America Elevator Co., Inc., to American Elevator Group and Arcline Capital Partners. | | | | GELESTINO: MODERNIZATION, SAFETY, CODE AMONG 2026 BUSINESS DRIVERS | | | The biggest opportunities for the vertical-transportation (VT) industry in 2026 will come from a continued push toward modernization, stricter safety requirements and code compliance, Don Gelestino, founder of Champion Elevator, told the New York Real Estate Journal (NYREJ) in late 2025. "Building owners are moving away from patchwork repairs and investing in full modernizations to improve performance, reduce downtime and meet new compliance standards," he told the source. Public agencies and large portfolios, meanwhile, are prioritizing long-term reliability, creating opportunities for VT firms that can deliver "consistent quality, transparency and speed." Gelestino told the NYREJ the key 2025 deal that best reflects the outlook for the NYC real estate market was SLGreen Realty Corp. acquiring Park Avenue Tower for US$730 million, showing that confidence is strong in commercial real estate. 2025 projects of which Champion is most proud, he said, include complex modernizations at 2 Wall Street and 125 West 46th Street, as well as its "continued progress with the NYC Housing Authority." | | | | MID-AMERICAN ELEVATOR PART OF LIRR STATION UPGRADE | | | Elevator vestibules to provide protection from the weather were among upgrades; photo by Marc A. Hermann for MTA. | | Mid-American Elevator was part of a team led by Citnalta/Scalamandre, J.V., that recently completed Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant upgrades at the Metropolitan Transportation Authority's (MTA) Valley Stream Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) station in Valley Stream, NY. Announced by MTA in December 2025, the project included more than US$12 million in federal funding for work like replacing an elevator and an escalator and installing a new elevator machine room and electrical room. New elevator vestibules for weather protection were also installed, as were security cameras, lighting, parking spaces, crosswalks and signage. The project is part of a design-build bundle that will add seven stations to MTA's list of accessible LIRR stations, replacing elevators and escalators at two additional stations. | | | TEI GROUP GAINS MAJOR TRACTION IN THE SOUTHEAST | | | NYC-headquartered TEI Group gained major traction in the Southeast with its recent expansion to Alabama, Georgia and further across Florida. "Our Southeast expansion, from Tampa, Tallahassee, Miami, Alabama, Jackson and Georgia (in March) brings us closer to our customers while laying the foundation for growth beyond," Principal and Executive Vice President (VP) Southeast Chad Posey said. "With many more locations to come, our expansion is guided by vision, built with discipline and focused on long-term impact." Headquartered in Birmingham, the Alabama office is being led by VP of Sales Michael Smith, a vertical-transportation professional with 13 years' experience, alongside VP of Operations Duff Whitmire. With more than 25 years' experience, Whitmire worked his way up from field operations into leadership and has been instrumental in developing TEI's Alabama region. The Jacksonville/Orlando, Florida, office is being led by East Florida Area Manager Donnie Chappell, who has more than 20 years' experience and worked his way up from field helper. Chappell possesses hands-on expertise and deep operational knowledge. | | | ECNY SHARES 2026 SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION | | | Elevator Conference of New York (ECNY) is excited to share this year's scholarship information packet, which can be found on its website under the "Scholarships" section.
