Been a big week in our building. Needed context, most of the people who live here are older curmudgeons. And that’s a brag, not a complaint. But it does make for some memorable all-building emails. This week’s highlights: “We are aware of the fresh wood smell in the main lobby. There is nothing to be concerned about.” Followed shortly by: “As a reminder, lobby repairs are beginning this week. Please do not engage with the workers. They are just trying to do their jobs.” Sometimes the entertainment gets delivered right to your doorstep. Enjoy it when it does, Dear Riders. Happy weekend. What to WatchOver the holidays, we went full movie-freak mode. Finally got around to One Battle After Another. Paul Anderson perfection. Name another three-hour movie you’d immediately rewatch. We won’t wait for your answer. Because we also caught Is This Thing On? and Marty Supreme in theaters. Those Safdie films… always humming with that specific, punk-rock intensity. You leave a little wired. In a good way.

What to Eat & DrinkLast weekend, we ordered something the menu called an “Inside Out Beef Wellington.” We wouldn’t call it inside-out, exactly. More like a beautifully cooked filet, a puff pastry on the side, potatoes, punchy horseradish sauce, the whole situation. Feels extremely doable at home. Skip wrapping a long hunk of beef. Cook individual filets. Build a proper sauce. Bake the puff pastry separately. Try it and report back.
What to DoWe know exactly what we won’t be doing this weekend, engaging with lobby workers who are just trying to do their jobs. Honestly? Solid metaphorical advice. Keep your side of the street clean. Resist the urge to tidy up someone else’s. You can’t control what others do. We’ll let you know if that ever changes, we assure you.
