TOTAL ACCESS EXPANDS L.A. AREA FOOTPRINT THROUGH ACQUISITION
Total Access Elevator, headquartered in Santa Fe Springs, California, and backed by private-equity firm Century Park Capital Partners, announced the acquisition of Simi Valley-based Vertical Elevator Solutions on March 13, expanding its footprint in the Ventura County and Los Angeles areas. Total Access General Manager Hugo Vega said the acquisition "unlocks new opportunities for growth and innovation in elevator modernization, maintenance and repair." Read more here
 
NEII PROVIDES CODE DEVELOPMENT UPDATE
National Elevator Industry, Inc. (NEII) recently provided a code development update. NEII observed the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) works continually on ASME A17.1/CSA Safety Code for Elevators and Escalators. Changes for the 2025 edition are finalized, and publication is expected before the end of the year. Work is now focused on the 2028 edition. The International Code Council (ICC) A117.1 Standards Committee continues to meet virtually every two weeks to review proposed revisions to the next edition of the ICC A117.1 Standard for Accessible and Usable Buildings and Facilities. VDA WELCOMES FLORIDA'S COMPASS ELEVATOR CONSULTING
VDATM, headquartered in East Hanover, New Jersey, with offices across the U.S. and Canada, announced on March 12 that Florida-based Compass Elevator Consulting Group, LLC has joined VDA. Founded by Tray Edmonds, Compass has provided vertical-transportation (VT) consulting services to clients throughout the U.S. for more than 18 years. ATIS TAPS FOX AS CEO TO LEAD NEXT PHASE OF GROWTH

SOUTHWEST ELEVATOR CO. WELCOMES NEW SERVICE SUPERINTENDENT
Southwest Elevator Co., headquartered in Fort Worth, Texas, and serving clients throughout Texas, as well as in central Florida and Las Vegas, Nevada, has named Tesleigh Minton as its new service superintendent for the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Minton joins Southwest from TK Elevator (TKE), where she held positions including service/modernization operations coordinator in Odessa/Midland, Texas, and sales coordinator and service superintendent in Dallas. Minton joined TKE and the elevator industry as a branch administrator in 2011.

ATTA ELEVATORS EXPANDS TO PORTLAND, OREGON
ATTA Elevators announced on March 1 the opening of its Portland, Oregon, office. Leading the new office is vertical-transportation (VT) industry veteran Maria Ortiz, who joins ATTA as regional vice president. Ortiz boasts 18 years' VT industry experience, including eight years focusing on the Portland market. Read more here
 
SCHINDLER: LOCAL SOURCING MEANS NO U.S. STEEL TARIFF HIT
Paolo Compagna, CEO of Switzerland-based Schindler, told Reuters in February that most of what the company manufactures at its plants in North Carolina and Pennsylvania uses materials that are sourced and produced domestically. That means there will be no impact from steel tariffs in the U.S. for Schindler's U.S. plants. Schindler projects revenue from its North American modernization business to grow by 5% to 10% this year, with global revenue projected to grow in the low single digits as construction activity remains slow. NEII: NEIEP SITE ADDS U.S. MAP SHOWING UPCOMING RECRUITMENTS
The National Elevator Industry, Inc. (NEII) announced the National Elevator Industry Education Program's (NEIEP) website now features a U.S. map showing locations for upcoming elevator constructor apprentice recruitments. Recruitments are the formal application process that each International Union of Elevator Constructors local has every two years. Read more here
 
MEBS TO LAUNCH CONTROL RENEWAL MENU FOR ELEVATORS BY OTHER MANUFACTURERS
Tokyo, Japan-headquartered Mitsubishi Electric Building Solutions (MEBS) will launch a new control renewal menu on March 19 for elevators manufactured by other companies and installed in existing buildings. By developing a new control panel with an auto-tuning function, MEBS is responding to the diverse needs of its overseas customers for the renewal of elevator control systems while spurring expansion of its maintenance and modernization business. The renewal menu achieves control that maximizes ride comfort, even with other companies' traction machines, through auto-tuning; promotes the modernization of existing elevators to enhance safety, convenience and sustainability; and achieves improved convenience in response to diversifying building solution needs. Major renewal equipment includes, from MEBS, the control panel with auto-tuning function and the car operation panel and hall button; and from suppliers, the traction machine and car door, etc. Available in North America, Central America, South America, Europe, Association of Southeast Asian Nations countries and more, the solution is for roped passenger elevators with traction machine rooms.
INDIA PASSES ANDHRA PRADESH LIFTS AND ESCALATORS BILL
The Legislative Assembly in India passed the Andhra Pradesh Lifts and Escalators Bill, 2025, which establishes a legal framework for the registration and regulation of the construction, installation, maintenance and safe operation of lifts and escalators and all accompanying machinery. Minister for Energy Gottipati Ravi Kumar introduced the bill on March 11. Read more here
 
OTIS MARINE TO PROVIDE 24 CARGO LIFTS FOR U.K.'S ROYAL NAVY
Otis announced in February Otis Marine will install eight cargo lifts each on three vessels for the U.K.'s Royal Navy as part of the Fleet Solid Support (FSS) project. FSS provides support ships designed to deliver munitions, supplies and provisions to the Royal Navy at sea. The principal purpose of the lifts will be to move provisions and stores. Read more here

MOXI AUTONOMOUS ROBOT COMPLETES 1 MILLION DELIVERIES
Diligent Robotics Inc. announced in February that its Moxi mobile manipulator surpassed 1 million deliveries across its entire fleet, according to The Robot Report. Moxi completed its millionth delivery as part of pharmacy run to an outpatient infusion center at a hospital in Chicago, which is one of its more common workflows to save nurses time and get medicine to patients as quickly as possible. ESCALATORS IN FOBS IN INDIA REMAIN INOPERABLE DUE TO POOR MAINTENANCE
Foot overbridges (FOBs) in Gurugram, India, built to offer pedestrians a safe passage across the city's congested roads, are suffering severe neglect, the Hindustan Times reports. The source recently performed spot-checks of the FOBs in Sector 30 and found that the escalators have been out of service indefinitely, the lights are nonfunctional and staircases are unkept, leading to the bridges remaining largely unused. CONSTRUCTION CONTRACT AWARDED FOR RESIDENCES IN DUBAI'S D3
Dubai Real Estate Holdings member Meraas awarded a more than AED2-billion (US$544.4-million) contract to Arabian Construction Co. LLC to construct Design Quarter within the Dubai Design District (d3), d3's first residential community, outlets including Construction Business News report. Described as a "global creative and design ecosystem," d3 is slated for completion by mid-2027. Read more here
 
SINGAPORE RESPONDS TO TREND OF SERIOUS ESCALATOR INCIDENTS
In a written answer to a question about serious injuries in children resulting in disabilities from escalator incidents, the Ministry of National Development (MND) in Singapore detailed the effect of escalator accidents in children. The Ministry stated, "Between 2022 to 2024, an average of 30 incidents of children under the age of 12 getting trapped while using escalators were reported to the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) per year, with most cases involving footwear entrapment. DEATH OF OFFICIAL IN INDIA SHINES SPOTLIGHT ON LIFT SAFETY STANDARDS
The March 10 death of a former chief security officer of the Telangana Secretariat as the result of injuries he sustained when an elevator at an apartment complex in Siricilla, Telangana, India, "fell from height" has sparked concerns over lift safety standards in high-rise buildings, outlets including Munsif News report. Former Chief Security Officer Gangaram was riding the elevator after visiting a friend when it collapsed mid-descent, with Gangaram succumbing to severe chest injuries "on the spot." Read more here
 
10 INJURED WHEN ESCALATOR MALFUNCTIONS IN PHILIPPINES
An escalator at the Taft Avenue Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) station in the Philippines malfunctioned on March 8, causing 10 passengers to sustain injuries, The Philippine Star reports. According to reports, the escalator was full of passengers when it malfunctioned, and some of them fell on top of each other. The Department of Transportation (DOTr) made a statement saying that the escalator malfunctioned due to issues with its main drive chain. The DOTr also announced that it would cover medical expenses of those injured. The escalator remained inoperable for three days while MRT-3 staff worked on the repairs.
