Questions should be sent to email. | | | IEES ISSUES CALL FOR PAPERS FOR DECEMBER EVENT | | | The International Elevator and Escalator Symposium (IEES), organized by Liftinstituut B.V. and Elevator World, Inc., has issued a call for papers. IEES is set to take place at Alvear Palace Hotel Buenos Aires in Argentina on December 11-12, and theme for the event is "The Future of Vertical-Transportation Safey." Potential speakers must submit an abstract of up to 300 words related to the symposium theme. Read more here | | | TKE AND ALAT ANNOUNCE JV TO MANUFACTURE VT LOCALLY IN KSA | | | On February 24, TK Elevator (TKE) and Alat, a Saudi Public Investment Fund company, announced they are forming a EUR160-million (US$167-million) joint venture (JV) to manufacture vertical-transportation (VT) solutions including elevators, escalators and moving walks in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) to support large-scale developments in KSA and the greater Middle East and North Africa region. Read more here | | | FERMATOR INVESTS EUR4 MILLION TO UPGRADE FACTORY IN 2024 | | | Fermator Group, the global manufacturer of automatic elevator doors headquartered in Reus, Spain, announced on February 5 it invested more than EUR4 million (US$4.1 million) to modernize logistics and production during 2024. The transformation included modernizing machinery, redesigning the internal distribution of its facilities and adopting advanced technologies. Read more here | | | KONE ANNOUNCES CHANGES TO EVP POSITIONS | Nicolas Alchal has been appointed KONE executive vice president (EVP), Commercial & Operations as of April 1. He continues to be part of the KONE Executive Board, reporting to Philippe Delorme, president and CEO. Alchal will continue in his current role as interim EVP for KONE's Europe organization until Karla Lindahl returns from parental leave in late March. Alchal succeeds Axel Berkling, who has decided to step down from his position as EVP for Commercial & Operations as of March 31. Read more here | | | MAYR POWER TRANSMISSION OPENS PRODUCTION FACILITY IN INDIA | Mayr power transmission opened a production facility in Halol near Vadodara in the state of Gujarat in India at the end of 2024, making this the fourth for the company in addition to the headquarters in Mauerstetten in Bavaria, Germany, Ostrzeszów in Poland (1994) and Zhangjiagang, China (2006). The well-established family business has been serving the Indian market since the 1990s via a sales partnership with a local authorized dealer. Read more here | | | KLST ACQUIRED BY PRIVATE-EQUITY FIRM MITION | | | Mition GmbH Mitelstandsbeteiligungen (Mition), a private equity firm focused on succession solutions for companies, acquired the well-established provider of elevator control systems, switchgears and components for elevators, Detlef Klinkhammer Steuerungen und Komponenten für Aufzüge GmbH (KLST), effective February 1. Founded in 1989 by Detlef Klinkhammer, KLST consists of approximately 60 employees, and develops and manufactures custom elevator control systems for nearly all major elevator manufacturers. Read more here | | | KONE BOD MEMBERS ELECTED AFTER AGM | At a meeting held after the Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Helsinki, Finland, on March 5, the KONE Board of Directors (BoD) elected from among its members Antti Herlin as its chairman and Jussi Herlin as vice chair. Marika Fredriksson was elected as chair of the Audit Committee and Susan Duinhoven, Jussi Herlin and Timo Ihamuotila as members of the Audit Committee. Ziehl-Abegg Supervisory Board Chairman Dennis Ziehl said Alterr is a "highly qualified financial expert who will strategically support our company during a crucial growth phase" that includes a major project in the U.S. Altherr joins Ziehl-Abegg with extensive financial experience. Read more here | | | CTBUH CALLS FOR SUBMISSIONS FOR THE 2025 INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE | Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) is seeking abstract submissions for the CTBUH 2025 International Conference, "From the Ground Up: Tall Buildings and City-Making," by 11:59 PM CST on February 21. The conference will take place on October 6-9 in Toronto, Canada. The event will focus on the creation of tall buildings and efficient transportation systems, as well as the social and cultural networks that bind people, businesses and communities together. Tatlift representatives visited the "UzElectroTechIndustry" Association to meet with Jahongir Jamalov, deputy chairman of the association; Gulshat Zagidullina, Tatlift's general director; Alisher Zakirov, deputy khokim of the Kashkadarya region; and other officials. Read more here | | | TORREMOLINOS BEACH ELEVATORS SOON TO CHARGE FEE | Torremolinos City Council announced on February 12 that it will soon charge a fee to visitors, except for children, seniors and the mobility-impaired, for elevator access to the Torremolinos beach in Costa del Sol, Spain, Travel and Tour World is among outlets to report. The per trip charge will apply to the use of the three elevators that provide access to the area. Two of the elevators connect Plaza Punta Tarifa in the town center to the beachfront, while the third connects La BaterÃa Park with Carlota Alessandri Avenue. Read more here | | | KONE AWARDED 'A' SCORE FOR CLIMATE ACTION FROM CDP | The Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) awarded KONE an "A" for action for climate and environmental transparency. Data reported through CDP's 2024 Climate Change questionnaire showed that KONE is among the few companies out of 25,000 surveyed to earn an "A." KONE's climate pledge committed the company to a 50% reduction in emissions compared to 2018 and to being carbon neutral by 2030. Read more here | | | REDESIGN PLANS FOR LONDON'S 70 GRACECHURCH APPROVED | The City of London has approved Kohn Pedersen Fox (KPF)'s proposals for a 32-story tower – a redesign of consented proposals from 2021, Architects' Journal reports. The 132-m-tall scheme includes the part-retrofit of a 23-year-old Marks & Spencer's store and office building at 70 Gracechurch Street, north-west of the Walkie Talkie, to create 50,000 m2 of office floor space. KPF's proposal also features a rooftop public gallery, garden terrace and cultural ground floor space. Read more here | | | HOTEL OWNERS IN MONTENEGRO DONATE ELEVATOR TO KOTOR CLINICAL HOSPITAL CENTER | Co-owners of the Montenegro Stars hotel group, Žarko Radulović and Ljudmila Ivanjenko, donated an electric elevator worth EUR67,000 (US$69,468) to the Kotor Clinical Hospital Center, Vijesti reports. The new elevator replaced the previous elevator that had been out of service for years.
