NEII, IUEC, EIWPF SIGN UPDATED MODEL ELEVATOR LAW
National Elevator Industry, Inc. (NEII) Executive Director Amy Blankenbiller and Vice President of Government Affairs Philip Grone met with International Union of Elevator Constructors (IUEC) General President Frank Christensen, IUEC General Secretary-Treasurer Larry McGann and Elevator Industry Work Preservation Fund (EIWPF) National Director Allen Spears in mid-February to sign the industry's updated Model Elevator Law (MEL). ZIEHL-ABEGG RECORDS RECORD YEAR IN 2023
Ziehl-Abegg, the Germany-headquartered manufacturer of electric elevator motors, among other components in drive, ventilation and control technology, in March announced it had the best year in company history in 2023, marking a sales increase of approximately 9.5% to EUR955 million (US$1 billion). The Canadian Elevator Contractors Association (CECA) has announced the next Elle-levator ā€” Women in Industry meeting will be held virtually on April 3 at noon Eastern Standard Time. EW BECOMES EXCLUSIVE MEDIA PARTNER OF THE NORDIC LIFT EXPO
ELEVATOR WORLD recently became the exclusive media partner of the Nordic Lift Expo, planned on November 12 at Scandic Infra City just outside of Stockholm, Sweden. The first post-pandemic Nordic Lift Expo was held in January 2023, and organizers observed moving to the modern exhibition center, combined with increased marketing efforts, result in a nearly 50% increase in both the number of visitors and exhibitors compared to 2018. Ahead of the November show, the team, together with representatives from both visitor and exhibitor groups, will develop the seminar program further and improve marketing efforts to attract additional visitors from all over the Nordics and beyond. NYC elevator industry veteran Christine Lypen joined Bronx, NY-based Start Elevator in March in new business development in the NYC and New Jersey areas. Lypen comes to Start from a seven-and-a-half-year career at Pride & Service Elevator, where she directed new business development. Prior to that, she was vice president of sales and marketing at TEI Group for nearly 16 years. She began her elevator-industry career as an account executive at New York Elevator, where she worked for nearly 13 years. Skilled in negotiation, budgeting, business planning, operations management and customer service, Lypen graduated from City University of New York-John Jay College of Criminal Justice.

HYPERION HOSTS ANNIVERSARY & OPEN HOUSE FOR COMBINED MCINTOSH, TITAN FACILITY

Celebrating their 50th and 35th anniversaries, respectively, Titan and McIntosh now boast a combined 15,000-ft2 machine shop along with a 50,000-ft2 distribution and storage warehouse. Torin machines were prominently displayed, and representatives of all Hyperion-owned companies were in attendance, as were Titan founder Carlos Escobar's son, Carlos Escobar, and McIntosh founder Peter McIntosh and son Pete McIntosh. OTIS FORMALLY ANNOUNCES BURJ KHALIFA MODERNIZATION AND SERVICE CONTRACT
On the heels of Otis Chair, President and CEO Judy Marks stating during a recent earnings call that Otis had won the modernization and service contract at Burj Khalifa, the world's tallest building in Dubai, U.A.E., the company formally announced the award on March 6. Emaar Properties selected the OEM to modernize 34 of 57 elevators and all eight escalators in the building. The contract also includes servicing all units for an additional 10 years. Read more here

SEVEN-ELEVATOR SCHINDLER SYSTEM FOR NYC'S SEVENTH ALOFT HOTEL
Schindler tells ELEVATOR WORLD it provided five S7000 passenger and two S7000 service elevators to 450 Eleventh Avenue at Hudson Yards directly across from the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in NYC. According to BLDUP, Marx Development Group obtained a US$187.5-million loan from Madison Realty Capital and Cerberus Capital Management to complete the 51-story tower. Read more here

OTIS VT SYSTEM FOR NATIONAL URBAN LEAGUE BUILDING IN UPPER MANHATTAN
Otis tells ELEVATOR WORLD it provided a complete vertical-transportation (VT) system for the unique, mixed-use National Urban League building in the Harlem neighborhood of Upper Manhattan, NYC, a 141,000-ft2 property that opened its doors in late February at 121 West 125th Street. NIGERIAN OFFICIALS FOCUS ON ELEVATOR SAFETY STANDARDS
Stakeholders in the building industry have resolved that elevator safety standards must be strictly followed to prevent negative occurrences in the industry, the Nigerian Tribune reports. This resolution was part of the communiquƩ issued at the end of the Equipment Safety Workshop for the Year 2024 held in Lagos and themed: "Safety Compliance in the Elevator and Vertical Equipment Industry." ZIEHL-ABEGG INVITES ENTRIES IN INAUGURAL AI COMMUNICATION AWARD 2024
KĆ¼nzelsau, Germany-based Ziehl-Abegg SE invites AI innovators to submit their projects to the inaugural AI Communication Award 2024 through April 19. A July 2 ceremony hosted by Ziehl-Abegg in Kupferzell, Germany, will recognize individuals who are "pushing the boundaries of technology and breaking new ground in digital communication," ranging from new ways of evaluating data using AI in marketing and public relations to AI-generated films. Led by Chairman Johannes Keller from Applied AI, a jury made up of prominent individuals from the field of AI, digitalization and marketing will assess all the submissions. Awards will be presented in various categories, with special attention paid to the student category, which comes with prize money of EUR2,000 (US$2,181). "We have to face up to and deal with the risks and opportunities of AI in every field," Ziehl-Abegg CEO Dr. Marc Wucherer observed. The company added: "The beating heart of AI in Europe will be heard increasingly louder in Heilbronn over the years ahead, and that is why the award is ideal fit for the Heilbronn-Franken region."

Architects' Journal has announced that Foster + Partners is working on a multibillion-dollar project to build the world's tallest building ā€” a 2-km-high skyscraper in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, twice the height of the current record holder: Skidmore, Owings & Merrill's 828-m-tall Burj Khalifa in Dubai, completed in 2010. NEW PLANS SUBMITTED FOR ONE FAIRCHILD STREET IN LONDON
Allford Hall Monaghan Morris (AHMM) has submitted plans for a 27-story office tower in Shoreditch on the fringe of the City of London, Building Design reports. The One Fairchild Street scheme, known as One Fair, would see 26,000 m2 of office space. Designed for developer Rocket Properties, the application replaces existing plans for a 30-story scheme that were approved in 2016 but never started. Read more here
