Read more here | | | OTIS FORMALLY ANNOUNCES BURJ KHALIFA MODERNIZATION AND SERVICE CONTRACT | On the heels of Otis Chair, President and CEO Judy Marks stating during a recent earnings call that Otis had won the modernization and service contract at Burj Khalifa, the world's tallest building in Dubai, U.A.E., the company formally announced the award on March 6. Emaar Properties selected the OEM to modernize 34 of 57 elevators and all eight escalators in the building. The contract also includes servicing all units for an additional 10 years. Read more here | | | FOSTER + PARTNERS BEHIND PLANS FOR WORLD'S TALLEST BUILDING | Architects' Journal has announced that Foster + Partners is working on a multibillion-dollar project to build the world's tallest building ā a 2-km-high skyscraper in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, twice the height of the current record holder: Skidmore, Owings & Merrill's 828-m-tall Burj Khalifa in Dubai, completed in 2010. Read more here | | | SCHINDLER SPOTLIGHTS ESCALATORS AT MAJOR EASTERN CHINA AIRPORT | On February 19, Schindler spotlighted a transportation system that includes 94 Schindler 9300 escalators serving the new Qingdao Jiaodong International Airport on the coast of eastern China. The OEM provided the escalators to the 470,000-m2-plus airport when it opened in 2021, and today has five full-time maintenance staff on-site to ensure the units are in good working order. Read more here | | | LONDON'S HISTORIC BT TOWER TO BECOME HOTEL | Heatherwick Studio will work with the new American owner of the BT (British Telecommunications) Tower in central London, U.K., to transform it into a hotel, Building Design reports. Opened in 1965 by then-Prime Minister Harold Wilson, the tower has become a landmark on the capital's skyline and is now grade II-listed.
