LARGEST INDEPENDENT VT COMPANY IN NYC, TEI GROUP, TAKES ON SOUTHEAST
TEI Group, the largest independent vertical-transportation (VT) company in the NYC metropolitan area, in March announced its expansion into the U.S. Southeast with the opening of Florida headquarters in Tampa. Wittur Holding GmbH, the Germany-based international elevator components supplier, has appointed Udo Aull as CEO. Aull succeeds Tom Stephenson, who steps down after more than three and a half years. IN MEMORIAM: JAMES "MR. JIM" MCKINLEY
James "Mr. Jim" McKinley, a longtime employee of Salisbury, Maryland-headquartered Delaware Elevator, Inc., passed away on February 9 after 64 years in the industry. McKinley knew every aspect of the elevator industry, including construction, modernization, service, management, sales and inspections. He shared his wisdom of and passion for the industry, and mentored many people, molding them into the mechanics and managers working among us today. McKinley began his elevator career in 1960 with Turnbull Elevator and Southeastern Elevator. He joined Delaware Elevator in the 1970s as Service Operations manager, leaving briefly to join American Elevator and US Elevator and returning to Delaware Elevator in 1989 as senior vice president. During semi-retirement in 2007, McKinley dabbled in inspections, going on to work with Liberty Elevator Consultants until his full retirement in 2021. The City Council in Ocean City, Maryland, unanimously approved three bid awards — including two related to vertical transportation (VT) — totaling nearly US$2 million at the Roland E. Powell Convention Center (CC), Ocean City Today reports. Delaware Elevator, Inc., was awarded a US$761,900 contract to rebuild and replace a large freight elevator at the convention center, and Otis was awarded a US$1.038 million contract to replace the facility's escalators. National vertical-transportation consultancy Clarkson + Varick recently named Kirles Girgis director of engineering. DEVELOPER OF 1,907-FT-TALL OKLAHOMA CITY TOWER SAYS HE'S SECURED FINANCING
Scot Matteson of Matteson Capital, developer of the mixed-use Boardwalk at Bricktown in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, which includes what would be the tallest tower in the U.S. at 1,907 ft., says he has secured financing for the US$1.5 billion project, KOKO News 5 reports. On the drawing board are hotels, condos and a supertall tower, set to take shape on four acres in downtown Oklahoma City. Read more here

The state of Himachal Pradesh in northern India welcomed its first outdoor escalators on March 14, with state Chief Minister Sukhvinder Sukhu inaugurating the four units installed by Schindler India at the hilltop Hanuman temple Jakhu in Shimla, the Weekly Voice is among outlets to report. At a height of 2,455 m above sea level, the escalators can carry 6,000 passengers per h from the parking lot and include safety brakes and double-drive technology. The units feature louvred, polycarbonate sheet balustrades that let in natural light, and aluminum composite panels on the lower levels provide ventilation.
