Read more here NFL PLAYERS/STAFF RESCUED FROM DALLAS HOTEL ELEVATOR Several National Football League (NFL) Los Angeles Chargers players and staff got stuck in a hotel elevator on August 23 and had to be rescued by the Dallas Fire Department, WGAL was among outlets to report. A total of 15 people were stuck in the elevator in a "blind shaft" somewhere between the third and 15th floors in the 33-story building that includes a hotel. Advertisement | | | SMALL ALASKAN CITY WELCOMES ITS FIRST ESCALATOR Sitka, a small city in southeastern Alaska, is welcoming its first escalator with a new unit being installed on August 26 at the Sitka Rocky Gutierrez Airport, KCAW reports. The nearly US$500,000 escalator arrived by cargo container on August 25 and is part of a US$45-million terminal expansion funded, in part, by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Act. Airport Terminal Manager Joseph Bea told the source the escalator was packed so tightly into the container that a forklift had to be used to "wiggle it out." The escalator is now being carefully dropped by a crane through the terminal skylight. The new, two-story terminal addition served by the new escalator is scheduled to open in May 2025. WYOMING CITY TAPS KONE FOR ARENA ELEVATOR REPAIRS The City Council in Casper, Wyoming, amended a contract with the city's elevator maintenance provider, KONE, to include repair of the passenger elevator serving the Ford Wyoming Center multipurpose area, Oil City News reports. "It is important to the people at Southern Elevator that we use our sponsorships for awareness." 30-STORY STUDENT TOWER GREENLIT IN WEST LONDON A 30-story student tower, along with a nine-story structure, has been approved by the Old Oak Park and Park Royal Development Corp. for Park Royal, West London, Urban Living reports. Designed by Maccreanor Lavington, the plan just north of Acton Town Centre includes a main, triangular tower housing 888 studio apartments for students, amenities and teaching spaces. Read more here | | HOTEL TOWER CONVERTED TO STUDENT HOUSING IN SAN JOSE San Jose State University (SJSU) in California converted a 13-story tower that formerly housed the Signia by Hilton Hotel into student housing, ABC 7 reports. SJSU formally opened Spartan Village on the Paseo on August 15, with university President Cynthia Teniente-Matson describing it as "unlike anything SJSU has ever built" with the speed and scope of the project "unprecedented." Read more here SAUDI ARABIA APPROVES DESIGN OF WORLD'S TALLEST SPORTS TOWER IN RIYADH The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) moved forward with its Vision 2030 initiative by approving the design of the world's tallest sports tower ā the 130-m-tall Global Sports Tower ā in Riyadh, Construction Review reported in July. A key component of Riyadh's 135-km Sports Boulevard, Global Sports Tower will include within its 84,000 m2 a digitized running track, the world's tallest indoor climbing wall at 98 m, and more than 30 sports amenities catering to a wide array of athletic interests.
