We are seeking submissions of projects featuring vertical, horizontal or inclined transportation systems with an innovative design, special application or approach that solved a major problem or overcame a unique challenge. Projects will be judged on innovation, originality and creativity, challenges overcome, installation methods and techniques and use of advanced technology and overall quality of presentation. This year's categories are Elevators, New Construction; Elevators, Modernization; Escalators, New Construction; Escalators, Modernization; Moving Walks; Inclined Elevators; Platform Lifts & Stairway Chairlifts; Private-Residence Elevators; and Special-Purpose Lifts. All entries will be judged and categorized as received by an impartial panel of experienced industry experts and professionals. Winning entries will be published in the January 2025 issue of ELEVATOR WORLD. Winners in each category will be acknowledged with an award of recognition. Training topics included overcoming architectural barriers, achieving energy efficiency, maintaining plant safety and understanding new technologies such as AI. Read more here | | | EUROPEAN LIFT MAKERS 2Q ORDER INTAKE ABOVE EXPECTATIONS | Schindler and KONE posted second-quarter order intake above expectations, but warned China's construction slowdown was weighing on new installations, Reuters reports. Schindler's order intake was down 0.4% from a year earlier in local currencies, but just ahead of analysts' forecast in a poll compiled by Vara, and the volume of new installations in China fell between 5% and 10% in the quarter compared to last year. Read more here | | | PRAGUE METRO STATION BARRIER FREE WITH ELEVATORS COMPLETE | | | Prague's JiÅĆho z PodÄbrad metro station in Vinohrady has officially reached barrier-free status with the opening of new elevators, expats.cz reports. The station is now the 47th barrier-free station in the Prague metro network. Each elevator has a capacity to transport up to 21 people, with a maximum load of 1600 kg. The completion of the elevators marks the end of the first phase of the surrounding square's transformation. Read more here | | | TKE LEADS ESCALATOR MODERNIZATION AT ICONIC SITE IN BARCELONA | TK Elevator (TKE) announced on July 16 it has been selected to modernize all 22 escalators that provide access to the iconic MontjuĆÆc area in Barcelona, Spain. The escalators, originally built for the 1992 Olympic Games, connect Plaza EspaƱa with the Olympic Stadium. The new project includes complete escalator replacement, installation of state-of-the-art digital monitoring and remote-control systems, as well as a multi-year maintenance agreement. Read more here | | | INNOVALIFT TO ACQUIRE TĆRKIYE LIFT COMPONENT MANUFACTURER ARKEL | Innovalift, a group of companies that designs, manufactures and installs vertical and inclined platform lifts, on July 19 announced it signed an agreement to acquire 100% of the shares in Arkel, a leading manufacturer of elevator components based in Istanbul, TĆ¼rkiye. Gothenburg, Sweden-headquartered Innovalift said the acquisition expands its geographical reach and complements its portfolio of elevator components. Read more here | | | FUJITEC IMMERSIVE ELEVATOR FEATURING LIGHTS AND MUSIC WINS AWARD | Three Fujitec-affiliated companies won an Award of Excellence in the Digital Signage Awards 2024 entertainment category for the Immersive Elevator, which "provides people with an emotional experience through the fusion of LED vision and a musical sound," Fujitec announced on July 8. When the elevator is rising, images suggesting an uplifting mood are projected; when it is going down, images evoke "emotional healing." Read more here | | | ZIEHL-ABEGG EVENTS IN VIETNAM SEE SUCCESS | Ziehl-Abegg, a leader in drive and control technology, held two seminars in June on elevator technology in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, in collaboration with Doza Technology, Machine Maker reports. Each event ā with a theme of "Reliability and Sustainability in the Elevator Industry with German and Swiss Components" ā drew 80 participants, including managing directors, developers, service technicians and elevator operators. Read more here | | | KONE LANDS 36-UNIT ORDER FOR 2FA TWO-TOWER LONDON DEVELOPMENT | KONE announced on July 18 it has won a contract to supply 36 vertical-transportation units for the 2 Finsbury Avenue (2FA) development in Broadgate, the largest pedestrianized neighborhood in the City of London. The order comprises 19 MiniSpaceTM and 12 MonoSpaceĀ® 700 elevators, as well as three energy-efficient TransitMasterTM 110 escalators.
