Read more here | | | TKE CONSIDERING US$22.7-BILLION IPO IN U.S. IN 2026 | | | Germany's TK Elevator (TKE), the fourth-largest elevator maker in sales behind U.S.-based Otis, Switzerland's Schindler and Finland-based KONE, is considering an initial public offering (IPO) in the U.S. in 2026, Reuters reports. The source cited three individuals familiar with the matter who wish to remain private. The U.S. accounts for approximately 35% of TKE's total EUR9.3 billion (US$10.5 billion) 2023-24 sales, and the company is likely to be valued at more than EUR20 billion (US$22.7 billion) in an IPO. Read more here | | | HISTORIC SPAIN AND PORTUGAL POWER OUTAGE AFFECTS ELEVATORS | A power outage in Spain and Portugal on April 28, which is the worst blackout in Spain's recent history, led to more than 600 reports of people being trapped in elevators, ara was among outlets to report. The blackout affected much of public transportation and telecommunications, as well. The first concern for emergency services personnel was people who were trapped, and evacuation was a top priority. Read more here | | | SCHINDLER EXPECTS U.S. TARIFFS TO COST MILLIONS | Swiss elevator maker Schindler expects U.S. tariff costs to be "in the millions" as it faces an anticipated decline in new-installation business in the Americas, outlets including Blue News report. Overall, though, Schindler's orders and margins increased for the first quarter, with group sales rising by 2.2% to CHF2.73 billion (US$3.30 billion). New installation order intake rose by 5.7% to CHF2.95 billion (US$3.26 billion). As expected, new installations declined in China, the only region where Schindler did not grow organically. For new installations in the Americas, Schindler anticipates stagnation or a decline of up to -5%, despite growth in excess of 10% for the first quarter. Read more here | | | ELEVATOR ASSEMBLY PLANT OFFICIALLY OPENS IN BELARUS | The Mogilevliftmash elevator assembly plant in Belarus has officially opened in Azerbaijan, BelTA reports. At the opening, Belarusian Prime Minister Aleksandr Turchin was shown the company's production facilities and elevator models to be assembled in Azerbaijan. Two years after the elevator assembly production plant Vertus Engineering Co. Ltd. was opened, Mogilevliftmash and the company signed an agreement to establish an assembly production plant in Azerbaijan, which is now underway. Read more here | | | ESCALATOR REPAIR BEGINS IN UKRAINE | Major repairs to an escalator at the Khreshchatyk metro station in Kyiv, Ukraine, will begin soon, UNN reports. The scheduled repairs were announced by the Kyiv City State Administration and were said to last until June. The escalator, leading to the Alley of Heroes of the Heavenly Hundred, will have all major components dismantled and repaired, including the staircase, handrails, gearbox and traction chains. | | | KONE TO EQUIP DUBAI RESIDENTIAL SUPERTALL WITH 38 VT UNITS | KONE has been selected by Dubai developer London Gate to equip the 1,476-ft-tall, 106-story Franck Muller Aeternitas Tower in Dubai Marina with 38 vertical-transportation (VT) units, KONE announced on May 8. Upon completion in 2027 the supertall will offer luxury apartments within the tallest residential clock tower in the world — a joint creation of London Gate and Swiss luxury watch manufacturer Franck Muller. The VT order includes 14 MiniSpaceTM DX energy-efficient, high-speed passenger elevators equipped with UltraRope® technology. The solution will also feature KONE 24/7 Connect for predictive maintenance, ensuring optimal performance and availability. Sustainability is a key focus throughout the project, with solutions designed to minimize energy consumption and support eco-efficient operations.
