The wife is heading out of town this weekend for a girls' trip. Sometimes, while she’s away, we busy ourselves with this project and that. But we recently misread a quote that we’ll misapply here. The actual quote was, “Weakness and determination is a dangerous combination.” We read it as “Weekends and…” Which, honestly, the same point applies, doesn’t it? When you’re a determined gentleman, as we assume you are, it’s the downtime, the quiet weekends alone, that can get you. Rest assured, we’ll check our determination at the front door of the Weekend. We suggest you do the same.   What to Watch When the wife’s away, niche documentaries are our forte. Rhyme intended thank you very much. We’ll be tuning into the recent Kentucky Derby documentary on Netflix, followed up by the actual Kentucky Derby this weekend. Amongst other things, like this Four Seasons thing with Steve Carell. Have yourself a bourbon lemonade. ‘Tis the season. Or keep it alcohol-free with the spicy Italian Buck mocktail.   What to Do “Youth is a marvelous garment,” we recently read in a novel. We like this phrasing of youth. A marvelous garment. Because, sure, it can be marvelous. But at the end of the day, it’s still a garment. One thing to keep in mind if you’re doing a little weekend shopping: the reverse isn’t as true. If you’re in the fitting room thinking, “This garment is marvelously youthful,” take it off, hang it back up, and leave the store immediately. Have yourself a slow morning. Reread our intro. Take on one of  these DIY backyard projects. It’s grilling season. Consider upgrading your grilling station. Order a gift worthy of mom.* Learn the physics involved in bowling a strike.
