OTIS TO PROVIDE 522 UNITS FOR MRT IN SINGAPORE Otis announced on August 20 it has been selected by Singapore's Land Trasport Authority (LTA) to provide 522 transportation units — 336 heavy-duty escalators and moving walks, along with 186 elevators — to support Mass Rail Transport's (MRT) new Cross Island Line (CRL). The 50-km-long CRL will be Singapore's longest fully underground MRT line, expanding access across the country and including residential areas, business hubs and recreational spaces. CRL will be LTA's eighth MRT line and built in three phases, the first of which, a 29-km stretch known as CRL1, has begun construction with a targeted completion date of 2030. Read more here ILLINOIS' COLLEY ELEVATOR: ELEVATOR CODE CHANGE IS COMING Bensenville, Illinois-headquartered Colley Elevator Co. reminds customers in its August newsletter that the elevator safety code is changing for the state of Illinois (excluding the city of Chicago), with the biggest change on the horizon being door lock monitoring (DLM). When Illinois adopts A17.1-2022, the code as written will require DLM on elevators permitted for installation or modernization after January 1, 2026. It will require DLM on all elevators by January 1, 2029, with no provision for grandfathering in older equipment. Work will include upgrades to the existing elevator system, including new interior finishes along with updated mechanical and electrical components. The improvements are aimed at boosting safety, reliability, energy efficiency and performance, and officials note that the upgrades will also bring the system in line with current codes while reducing maintenance costs by replacing outdated equipment. Read more here | | DIE AUFZUGSINGENIEURE ANNOUNCES PROJECT MANAGEMENT HEAD Holger Kirchhof is the new head of project management at Germany's "Die Aufzugsingenieure," a new company specializing in lift consulting for planning, operation, maintenance and training, LIFTJournal reports. His new role will be in expediting the expansion of the engineering company. As a graduate economist, he previously worked for various lift sector companies in leading positions. TENNESSEE AIRPORT WORKS TO MINIMIZE ESCALATOR WORK IMPACT Staff at McGhee Tyson Airport (TYS) in Blount County, Tennessee, just south of Knoxville, are working to minimize impact on passengers as KONE replaces the facility's two escalators over the next 16 weeks, The Daily Times reports. The "down" escalator is currently running and the "up" escalator is cordoned off behind screens as it undergoes replacement. Signage directs passengers to alternate routes. Police said a fellow employee at the factory in Suminoe Ward called the emergency number, but by the time paramedics arrived, the man had gone into cardiac arrest. He was transported to a hospital and confirmed dead approximately an hour later.
