He wrote The Big Sleep, Farewell, My Lovely, to name a couple. In 1945, he also wrote a letter to The Atlantic Monthly, introducing his “secretary.” Her name was Taki (originally Take, but Mr. Chandler tired of having to explain this was a Japanese word meaning bamboo and should be pronounced in two syllables).  Oh.
