The submission deadline is September 2. | | | ITALY'S CMALIFTS UNDERGOING MAJOR EXPANSION | | | CMAlifts®, headquartered in Corato, Italy, is undergoing a EUR42-million (US$49-million), 15,000-m2 expansion that will see three new factories built and the company occupying a total area of approximately 60,000 m2. Because the structures are timber modular extension buildings, the elevators are installed in wooden shafts using a certified, high-efficiency assembly method conceived by Schindler, which is supporting the full lifecycle of all units. Read more here | | | IN MEMORIAM: KLAUS REINHARDT | Klaus Reinhardt, former board member of VFA-Interlift e.V. and owner and managing director of ATH Aufzugstechnik Heilbronn and Becker & Reinhardt, GmbH & Co. KG of Germany, passed away recently at the age of 76. During his time as VFA-Interlift board member from 1998-2004, Reinhardt helped shape the future of the industry with his expertise, vision and great personal commitment, VFA-Interlift observed. "His work was always characterized by integrity, collegiality and a deep sense of responsibility for technical quality and entrepreneurial action," the association noted. Reinhardt led both ATH Aufzugstechnik Heilbronn and Bercker & Reinhardt, with strength, entrepreneurial skill and an open ear for employees and business partners alike. His management style was human and clear, and his visions forward-looking. Under his leadership, both companies developed into respected players in the German lift market, known for their high levels of expertise and quality. | | | ALIMAK ACQUIRES TEXAS-BASED INDUSTRIAL ELEVATOR BUSINESS | | | Alimak Group, the global provider of vertical-access and working-at-height solutions headquartered in Sweden, on July 8 announced plans to acquire the permanent industrial elevator business of Century Elevators Inc., based in the Houston, Texas, area. Owned by BrandSafway since 2019, Century has established itself as a leading supplier of industrial rack-and-pinion elevators throughout North America since it began in 2009. Read more here | | | OTIS 2Q EARNINGS REFLECT STRENGTH AND CHALLENGES | Otis' Second Quarter (2Q) earnings reflect strengths, including a robust and growing service business, and challenges, such as a weak new installation market, particularly in China. The company's earnings per share (EPS) exceeded expectations, with EPS of US$1.05 compared to the forecasted US$1.03, but revenue missed the anticipated US$3.7 billion forecast, coming in at US$3.6 billion. Otis' service business continued to drive growth, contributing 90% of its operating profit. Read more here | | | PRAGUE PUBLIC TRANSPORT FINISHES LIFT INSTALLATION | Prague Public Transport finished installing a new elevator at the Radlická metro station in Prague, Czech Republic, which was made accessible on July 23, Prague Daily News reports. After approximately 10 months of construction, the new elevator installation has been completed, making Radlická the 48th station to become barrier-free in the Prague metro network. Read more here | | | IN MEMORIAM: STEPHAN KRETZSCHMAR | Stephan Kretzschmar, sales manager at LM Liftmaterial GmbH, died in a plane crash on July 5 together with his 33-year-old son and his son's partner, LIFTjournal reports. He was voted to the VFA-Interlift eV board as an assessor in 2001 and served as deputy chairman from 2007 to 2013. He continued as an honorary member of VFA, spoke at VFA Academy and was a correspondent for interlift. On behalf of VFA-Interlift eV Achim Hütter wrote an obituary for Kretzschmar: "Stephan Kretzschmar was a defining figure in the lift industry for decades. With his tireless commitment, professional expertise and keen sense of interpersonal relationships, he left a mark that extends far beyond his immediate professional environment. Those who knew Stephan appreciated his calm, intelligent and level-headed manner. He always shared his knowledge generously – with colleagues, young professionals and partners alike. His passion for technology was always accompanied by his ability to inspire and bring people together." | | | ALIMAK GROUP TO HOLD CAPITAL MARKETS DAY ON NOVEMBER 25 | Alimak Group, a global provider of sustainable vertical access and working-at-height solutions, will hold its Capital Markets Day at Studio Puck, Kommendörsgatan 24, Stockholm, Sweden, on November 25. Alat now has a 15% stake in TKE, attesting to TKE's "operational strength and compelling long-term value creation potential." Read more here | | | KONE WINS TWO RED DOT 2025 AWARDS | KONE has won two awards in the prestigious Red Dot Award: Product Design 2025 competition. In the Interior Design Elements category, the award went to KONE Entrance, a programmable guiding light for elevator doorways. KONE also won in the Sustainable Design category with Interact 30 DOP, a new destination operating panel. KONE Entrance is an illuminated elevator door frame that uses animated light to facilitate orientation in the waiting area in front of elevators. Read more here | | | RÖCHLING INDUSTRIAL BEGINS MULTI-PHASE CONSTRUCTION PROJECT | Plastics engineering company Röchling Industrial is investing more than EUR17 million (US$19.8 million) in expanding its Xanten location in North Rhine Westphalia, Germany, LIFTJournal reports. The location is to undergo comprehensive expansion and modernization in several construction phases by 2030. As part of the construction project, comprehensive expansion of the production, logistics and administrative areas is planned. Read more here | | | UZBEKISTAN RESOLUTION TO REQUIRE COLOR LABELS BASED ON INSPECTION RESULTS | According to Uzbekistan's Cabinet Resolution No. 431 dated July 12, a new regulation on the procedure for conducting technical inspections of elevators has been approved, Zamin reports. According to the resolution, elevators installed in buildings and used continuously must undergo a mandatory technical inspection at least once every 12 months, and any elevator that is being commissioned or newly installed must undergo a preliminary inspection before being registered in the special electronic information system. Read more here | FUJITEC'S FIRST DOUBLE-DECK LIFT ORDER IN U.K. PART OF PROJECT | Fujitec announced on July 8 it has been awarded a 26 vertical-transportation (VT) unit contract for 60 Gracechurch Street, an office redevelopment project in the City of London's historic Financial District by Obayashi Properties UK Ltd. Fujitec will deliver four escalators and 22 elevators, including its first double-deck elevator groups in the U.K. Read more here | SCHINDLER REPORTS INCREASED PROFITS DESPITE DECREASED NEW INSTALLATIONS | Schindler recently reported a turnover of CHF2.76 billion (US$3.44 billion) for the months of April to June, blue News reports. This was 5.7% less than the previous year and corresponded to a 0.4% increase in local currencies. While incoming orders were slightly lower than in the same period of the previous year — decreasing by 1.9% to CHF2.94 billion (US$3.67 billion) — Schindler increased its operating profit (EBIT) by 6.1% to CHF346 million (US$431 million) in the second quarter and by 9.7% to CHF372 million (US$464 million). Read more here | KONE LAUNCHES FIVE-YEAR SUSTAINABLE BUILDING R&D PROGRAM | KONE announced the launch of KONE Renaissance, a five-year R&D program for sustainable building renewal, on July 14. Its purpose is to revive existing buildings for low-emission living and working and create a digital and sustainable ecosystem hub that brings together key industry stakeholders, research institutions, small and medium-sized companies and startups. The program will support the low carbon targets of cities by enabling adaptation, digitalization and decarbonization of existing buildings. Read more here | THREE WORKERS DIE WHEN FREIGHT ELEVATOR COLLAPSED IN ITALY | Three workers died when a freight elevator collapsed in the Vomero neighborhood of Naples, Italy, on July 25, Agenzia Nova reports. According to initial reports, the workers were operating the elevator on the sixth floor during renovation work on the building when the lifting system suddenly failed. The collapse caused a vertical fall that killed the three workers on impact.
