The deadline for submissions for ELEVATOR WORLD'S 28th Annual Project of the Year Awards has been extended. Get your submissions in before September 23 to be included. ATIS, one of North America's largest providers of vertical-transportation inspections, consulting and managed services, has acquired the U.S. elevator inspection business of Technical Inspection Agency USA (TIA). Elevator Service, Inc. (ESI), the parent company of City Elevator of Michigan, announced the acquisition of Elevator Technology, a Detroit-based elevator service provider. NAESA International is offering the Qualified Elevator Inspector (QEI) Certification Exam only at the Hilton Hotel in Markham, Ontario, Canada, on October 28. Those interested in taking the exam will need to submit NAESA's QEI application and be approved before scheduling the exam. Completed applications can be submitted to Megan Fitzmaurice by e-mail. The QEI Certification Exam is intended for individuals who meet the Experience Requirements as listed in ASME QEI-1 Standard for the Qualification of Elevator Inspectors and on NAESA's QEI application.

The agreement, which entails Al-Futtaim serving as the sole distributor to supply, install and maintain Hyundai's full suite of vertical-transportation (VT) solutions in KSA, was signed by Al-Futtaim Contracting Managing Director Murali S. and Hyundai Elevator Head of Global Sales Yum Kyu Sang at Hyundai Elevator's Seoul headquarters. INDIA'S TEA CALLS FOR REDUCED GST ON ELEVATORS
India's Telangana Elevator Association (TEA) has appealed to the Central government to reconsider the existing 18% Goods and Services Tax (GST) on elevators, stressing that a reduction would positively impact affordable housing across the country, the Deccan Chronicle reports. TEA officials highlighted the challenges facing small and medium-sized elevator manufacturers and installers in Telangana, adding that the industry there continues to operate without a formal regulatory framework. Riyadh, Saudi Arabia's Atlas Elevators General Trading and Contracting Co. inked a SAR400,000 (US$106,616) agreement with Makannah Trading Co. for Makannah to oversee equipment upgrades and modernization as Atlas relocates its old plant, Argaam reports. Makannah is also charged with tapping technical staff to manage and operate the factory, participate in engineering and technical meetings and supervise the move. NYC MTA OPENS TWO ELEVATORS AT BRONX SUBWAY STATION
The NYC Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) announced on September 3 the completion of two Otis elevators at the Mosholu Parkway subway station. The elevators make the station Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant, with one unit bringing customers from street level to the mezzanine and downtown platform and the other connecting the mezzanine to the uptown platform. L.T. TKE OWNERS IN TALKS WITH BANKS AHEAD OF POSSIBLE IPO
Private equity groups Advent and Cinven are in talks with banks as they begin laying the groundwork for a public listing of TK Elevator (TKE), a move that could rank among Europe's largest stock market debuts in recent years, MSN is among outlets to report. VIOLATIONS TO BE ISSUED IN NYC FOR FAILURE TO FILE ELEVATOR REPORTS
The NYC Department of Buildings (DOB) announced in late August it will issue violations in September and October 2025 for failure to file Category 1 elevator test and periodic inspection reports for the 2024 Elevator Inspection and Test Cycle. Violations will also be issued for failure to file by the due date an affirmation of correction for defects found during the 2024 cycle. Read more here | | | VOTE NOW!
