TKE OPENS ELEVATOR TECHNOLOGY CENTER IN GERMANY

CORNELIUS WALLS JOINS CEDES AS VP
CEDES has announced the addition of Cornelius Walls as vice president (VP) of Elevator & Escalator for North America. ECNY AND NAESA TO HOST NYS MECHANIC AND QEI COURSE
Elevator Conference of New York (ECNY) and NAESA International are hosting
New York State (NYS) Mechanic License Course and Qualified Elevator Inspector (QEI) License Certification (2025 Code Update Seminar) on November 20 from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Villa Barone Manor, 737 Throgs Neck Expressway in Bronx, NY. EMERCOM TECHNOLOGIES TAPS SINCLAIR AS PRESIDENT
Emercom Technologies, headquartered in Burnaby, Canada, recently announced the appointment of Andrew Sinclair as president. Sinclair has more than 25 years' elevator industry experience, previously serving as chief product officer at Delta Elevator, Ontario's largest independent elevator contractor, where he oversaw procurement, engineering and manufacturing as a member of the senior management team. Earlier in his career, Sinclair worked as an electrics and software designer in geophysics and oceanography, with a focus on remote-sensing technologies. Specializing in designing and delivering innovative elevator communications systems that meet high industry standards including A17.1/B44.19 code, EmerCom built its reputation on practical, customer-focused solutions that it believes "set industry benchmarks for safety and reliability."
 
WITTUR NAMES NEW TRADING LEADER FOR DACH REGION
Wittur has announced the appointment of Martin Taurer as the new trading leader for the Germany, Austria and Switzerland (DACH) region, the Czech Republic and the Netherlands, LIFTjournal reports. In this role, Taurer will oversee commercial operations in these markets. He steps into this leadership role following a tenure as area sales manager for Austria, bringing with him extensive industry experience. Read more here

KONE TO EQUIP NEW CHINA RAILWAY WITH 117 VT UNITS
KONE announced on September 22 it won an order to equip a new railway line connecting Ningbo and Xiangshan, China, with 117 vertical-transportation (VT) units. Delivery comprises 16 MonoSpace® and 11 MiniSpaceTM elevators, and 90 TransitMasterTM escalators. The contract also includes eight years of maintenance. Developed by Ningbo Line Twelve Suburban Railway Development Co., Ltd., the new line will be approximately 60-km long with 10 stations. Read more here

REPORTS INDICATE KONE INTERESTED IN POTENTIAL BID FOR TKE
According to a report by MarketScreener using sources cited by Bloomberg News, KONE is once again evaluating a potential bid for its rival TK Elevator (TKE). KONE is said to have held discussions with advisers and explored financing options as it considers making an offer for parts or the entirety of TKE. Sources indicate that KONE would likely need to partner with another entity to overcome regulatory hurdles, given the significant overlap between the companies' operations in Europe. Read more here

HYUNDAI ELEVATOR FOCUSING ON MODULAR TECHNOLOGY IN KOREA
Hyundai Elevator achieved the first domestic commercialization of modular elevator technology in Korea, Pulse is among outlets to report. Demand for modular elevators is expected to rise as they reduce workplace hazards and shorten construction times. According to industry sources, Hyundai Elevator completed development of its modular elevator technology and is in discussions with a major Korean construction firm for on-site supply. U.K.'S SHORTS LAUNCHES LIFT PROFESSIONAL WORKWEAR BRAND
U.K.-based Shorts Industries Ltd. has launched Lift Professional, a brand offering high-quality workwear, graphic T-shirts and accessories to celebrate those who work in the vertical-transportation industry. An idea born during the COVID-19 pandemic, the direct-to-consumer platform "gives lift professionals the opportunity to buy products for themselves and makes it easy for friends and family to purchase meaningful gifts that show appreciation for the industry's unsung heroes," Shorts Industries states. The platform, along with a new website, was "created to celebrate the people who keep everything moving in the background."

NYC MTA UNVEILS TWO NEW ELEVATORS AT QUEENS SUBWAY STATION
The NYC Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) unveiled two new elevators manufactured and installed by Modern Elevator at the Northern Boulevard subway station in Woodside, Queens, on September 19. Bringing the busy station into full compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, work included two street-to-platform elevators, the rehabilitation of two street-to-platform stairs, new lighting, updated fire and communications systems and more. OHIO APPROVES ELEVATOR PROJECT AT STATE PENITENTIARY
The Ohio Controlling Board has approved a request to release more than US$4.2 million for renovations at the Ohio State Penitentiary in Youngstown, 21 WFMJ reports. The funds will be used to contract with Murphy Contracting Co. for the construction phase of an elevator replacement project at the prison. The project will involve replacing six elevators and their associated electrical systems, as well as the installation of new electrical controls. Read more here

CIBSE LAUNCHES SoVT
The U.K.'s Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) has announced the official launch of the Society of Vertical Transportation (SoVT), an international professional community for individuals and organizations working across the design, engineering, installation and innovation of lifts, escalators and emerging vertical mobility systems. The SoVT builds on the legacy of the well-established CIBSE Lifts Group. The new society formalizes this foundation, offering a recognized structure for professional membership, specialist continuing professional development, collaboration and international engagement. The launch coincides with the release of the CIBSE Guide D 2025 – Transportation Systems in Buildings, an internationally recognized reference for vertical-transportation professionals. Covering passenger and goods lifts, escalators, moving walks, lifting platforms and emerging technologies, the updated guide offers practical advice for design, installation, commissioning, operation and maintenance. The 2025 edition introduces a modular, multi-part format designed for clarity and usability, providing comprehensive guidance on interior circulation, human factors and inclusive design, as well as lift traffic planning and system performance optimization. It covers system components, controls and drive technologies, alongside accessibility and inclusivity considerations, energy efficiency and environmental performance. The guide aligns with current U.K. legislation, safety codes and international best practices, and is complemented by resources available through the SoVT.

INDIANA LIBRARY SET TO GET ELEVATOR REPAIRS
The elevator at the Madison branch of the Jefferson County Public Library (JCPL) in Indiana will soon be getting needed repairs, the Madison Courier reports. The Jefferson County Council recently approved using US$150,000 from the library's rainy-day fund to finance repairs to the elevator, which was installed in 1966. Five bids were sought for the elevator upgrade, and Executive Elevator of Louisville submitted an offer. Read more here

KOREA ELEVATOR UNIVERSITY MOU TO SUPPORT DISABLED COMMUNITY
Through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with South Korea's Center for Comprehensive Support for Enterprises for Persons with Disabilities (CCSED) signed on September 19, The Korea Elevator University vows to support people with disabilities by helping build a supportive ecosystem, Venture Square reports. The Korea Elevator University, an educational institution dedicated to the elevator industry, operates an educational program for people with disabilities by working with industries in South Korea's Gyeongnam region and the Regional Innovation System and Education project, a national initiative. 10 INJURED IN CHAIN-REACTION ESCALATOR FALL IN HONG KONG
Ten elderly people were injured in a chain-reaction escalator fall at a mall in Hong Kong on September 21, The Standard is among outlets to report. A woman fell at the bottom of the escalator, resulting in a "domino effect" of the trailing elderly passengers falling and sustaining head injuries and fractures. The escalator was shut off in the wake of the "chaotic" incident as injured individuals were transported to a nearby hospital. They had been attending a charity event at a restaurant in the mall. Hong Kong's Electrical and Mechanical Services Department was investigating the incident before reopening the escalator.
