NOMINATIONS FOR THE SECOND ELLIES EUROPE OPEN SOON

Elevator World Inc.’s prestigious and wildly popular Ellies Awards are on their second year recognizing European vertical-transportation industry businesses that have gone above and beyond for their customers, employees and communities. Ellies Europe is totally controlled by you. Any company can be nominated within their specific category. The nomination period is August 24 – September 4. A company must be nominated to qualify for the voting period. The voting period is September 21-25, and anyone can vote. Winners in each category will be announced and presented with their Ellies Award live on stage at the 2026 Lift Expo Italia in Milan.

SUBMIT YOUR PROJECT FOR THE EW PROJECT OF THE YEAR AWARDS
|
Submissions are now being accepted for the ELEVATOR WORLD 29th Annual Project of the Year Awards. We are seeking submissions of projects featuring vertical, horizontal or inclined transportation systems with an innovative design, special application or approach that solved a major problem or overcame a unique challenge. Projects will be judged on innovation, originality and creativity, challenges overcome, installation methods and techniques and use of advanced technology, as well as overall quality of presentation. This year’s categories are Elevators, New Construction; Elevators, Modernization; Escalators, New Construction; Escalators, Modernization; Moving Walks; Inclined Elevators; Platform Lifts & Stairway Chairlifts; Private-Residence Elevators; and Special-Purpose Lifts. All entries will be judged and categorized as received by an impartial panel of experienced industry experts and professionals. Winning entries will be published in the January 2027 issue of ELEVATOR WORLD. Winners in each category will be acknowledged with an award of recognition. The submission deadline is September 2.

KONE AND AIO AGREE TO DEVELOP SUSTAINABLE INFRASTRUCTURE IN EGYPT

KONE and Arab International Optronics (AIO), a prominent Egyptian company operating nine factories in Cairo that produce precision optical, electro-optical and electronic systems, in July signed an agreement to develop sustainable urban infrastructure in Egypt, outlets including Daily News Egypt report. The agreement combines the Finnish OEM's people-flow expertise with AIO's industrial and technological capabilities to support future-ready, sustainable and innovative mobility solutions through advanced infrastructure nationwide. NEW MODULAR PLATFORM BUOYS SCHINDLER NEW-INSTALLATION GROWTH

Switzerland-headquartered Schindler announced on July 21 that momentum of its new modular product platform is driving new-installation growth (excluding China), particularly in Europe. "In the first half of 2026, we continued to execute on our strategy of disciplined, profitable growth and achieved a strong operating profit," Schindler CEO Paolo Compagna said in the interim report covering through June 30. "These results underline the strength of our strategy and position us well to continue creating long-term value for our customers, employees and shareholders." Read more here

FERMATOR ADDING PARKING FACILITY AT SPAIN HQ

Fermator, manufacturer of automatic lift doors and related components, announced it is moving forward with improvements to its central headquarters (HQ) in Reus, Spain, with construction of a 17,000-m2 parking facility with capacity for approximately 540 vehicles. Designed to enhance accessibility and functionality for Fermator employees, the three-level parking structure is part of the company's ongoing commitment to creating a more efficient, functional and future-ready working environment. TÜV SÜD MACHINERY ROADSHOW 2026 TO FOCUS ON DIGITALIZATION, AI AND NEW EU RULES

TÜV SÜD, the world’s first Notified Body for the new EU Machinery Regulation, plans to host The Machinery Roadshow 2026 on November 23 at TÜV SÜD headquarters, Haus Algorithmus in Munich, Germany. Conducted entirely in English, the event offers an international platform where manufacturers, operators, developers, technology companies and regulatory authorities can come together to shape the future of mechanical engineering. The focus will be on the practical implementation of the new EU Machinery Regulation, cybersecurity, functional safety and the use of AI, with the overarching goal of successfully combining innovation and compliance. KONE REPORTS ORDER GROWTH, MARGIN EXPANSION WITH EMEA A HIGHLIGHT
|
Finland-headquartered KONE reported strong growth in orders and continued margin expansion for the first half of the year, with President and CEO Philippe Delorme stating, "We delivered a strong second quarter, highlighted by order growth of more than 10%." He said the re-acceleration of modernization, with double-digit growth across all regions, is particularly encouraging. The defining event of the quarter, Delorme observed, is KONE's planned acquisition of TK Elevator. Read more here

SCHINDLER ELEVATORS, DIGITAL SOLUTIONS HELP ROBOTS NAVIGATE SWISS HOSPITAL
|

|
|
Schindler announced on July 30 it is successfully integrating elevators and digital solutions that help robots — or Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) — navigate HOCH Health Ostschweiz, a major hospital in St. Gallen, Switzerland. The hospital is in the midst of a major expansion that saw the addition of a large operating floor and nearly 100 new patient rooms served by 20 elevators. A further expansion will have six additional elevators. AGV integration, which had already begun in other buildings across the campus, was added as a new requirement during project implementation. Schindler’s experts responded by expanding the system’s design to incorporate robotic transport. Read more here

METRON, BASED IN GREECE, INVESTS IN AUTOMATION, ROBOTICS AND MORE
|
Metron SA, an export-focused Greek manufacturer of complete, customized elevator systems, cabins, doors and metallic shafts, on July 15 announced the launch of a EUR3-million (US$3.4-million) investment program for 2026-2028 to strengthen its production capabilities in the Serres Industrial Area in Greece and reinforce its commitment to partners. OTIS 2Q EARNINGS: SERVICE SALES ACHIEVE GREATEST GROWTH SINCE SPINOFF
|
In a July 22 call discussing Otis' second quarter (2Q) earnings, Chair, President and CEO Judy Marks said she expects strong growth in service — modernization, repair and maintenance — as well as robust backlog in both modernization and new equipment to support the OEM's "expectation for continued growth in the quarters ahead." Service sales growth — with net sales up 11% and organic sales up 9% — matched the highest level the Connecticut-based company achieved since its spinoff from United Technologies in 2020. Overall, net sales were up 7% and organic sales up 6%, with new equipment net sales flat and organic sales down 1%. Read more here

ALIMAK ACQUIRES NORTH AMERICAN ACCESS-SOLUTIONS SPECIALIST PRO-BEL
|
Alimak Group, the global provider of vertical-access and working-at-height solutions headquartered in Sweden, on July 14 announced the acquisition of Pro-Bel, a Toronto area provider of suspended-access and fall-protection solutions with customers across Canada and the U.S., in a CAD200-milion (US$142.3-million) deal. Pro-Bel, which has 45 years' industry experience and a highly profitable operating model, will be incorporated into Alimak's Façade Access division. Read more here

KONE SYSTEMS TO BE INSTALLED AT ARMENIA PREMIUM-CLASS MULTIFUNCTIONAL COMPLEX

The Azatutyun Multifunctional Complex and Yuglift, the official representative of KONE in Armenia, have signed a Memorandum of Cooperation on the integration of KONE’s modern elevator systems into the complex located in Yerevan, Armenia, News.am reports. Azatutyun Complex chose KONE because the concept behind the project envisions not only premium-class architecture, but also attention to every detail, from engineering solutions to the everyday comfort of its residents. The complex has been designed using advanced engineering, contemporary architectural and innovative construction approaches, with a high seismic resistance rating of 9+. Read more here

SCHINDLER SEES OPPORTUNITIES IN KONE-TKE MERGER
|
Swiss OEM Schindler sees opportunities in the KONE-TK Elevator (TKE) merger, including gaining customers and employees during the integration and acquiring assets if regulators require KONE to divest them, Reuters reports, quoting Schindler CEO Paolo Compagna. The complex integration process, Compagna said, will create disruption for both customers and employees, and Schindler will be "ready to talk and see and listen" regarding any potential divestitures. The CEO stressed that such a scenario remains uncertain. Read more here

CONSTRUCTION SITE FIRE IN BRUSSELS LEAVES SIX DEAD IN BLOCKED ELEVATOR SHAFT
|
At least six people died and two others were injured on July 14 as a result of a fire raging through a building undergoing renovation in Brussels, outlets including the International Association of Fire and Rescue Services report. The deceased were found inside a blocked elevator shaft. The fire began on the building’s second floor and quickly spread into the lift shaft, “trapping multiple elevators and complicating rescue efforts.” Read more here
