French telcos Bouygues Telecom and Altice plan to retire their respective 2G networks by 2026, while Orange wants to switch its 2G network off next year with all aiming to retire their 3G service by 2029. OHIO ANNOUNCES NEW LICENSING RULES FOR ELEVATOR PROFESSIONALS The Ohio Department of Commerce announced on November 1 that those who install, service or maintain elevators, escalators, moving walks, wheelchair lifts or other conveyances in the state have until November 1, 2025, to earn their Elevator Contractor's or Elevator Mechanic's License. Ohio law previously required only elevator inspectors to be licensed. However, House Bill 107, signed into law by Gov. Advertisement | | | HYPRLIFT SHOWCASES ROPELESS ELEVATOR AT DUBAI EVENT Silicon Valley, California-based Hyprlift Inc. founder and CEO James Hutchinson and Head of International Business Development Talal Al Alami showcased the company's next-generation ropeless elevator at GITEX 2024 on October 14-18 at the Dubai World Trade Centre in Dubai, U.A.E. GITEX is one of the largest tech and startup events in the world. Hutchinson presented Hyprlift's "Go Ropeless" initiative on the event's Impact Future Planet stage, promoting ropeless elevator technology to building developers and describing advantages the technology has over traditional elevator systems. Unlike traditional roped elevators that face height limitations due to their reliance on hoist ropes, ropeless elevators can travel non-stop to virtually any height, eliminating the need for passengers to stop and transfer from one elevator to another to reach their destination, Hutchinson said. FATALITY OCCURS IN ELEVATOR INCIDENT IN THE PHILIPPINES A 45-year-old died falling down an elevator shaft at a commercial establishment in Baguio, Philippines, GMA Regional TV reported on November 5. The man was trying to use the freight elevator to dispose of trash. The light indicated the elevator was operational, but it did not appear when the doors opened, and the man fell 20 m. He was rushed to the hospital and declared dead there. Advertisement | | | CALIFORNIA PARK GETS ELEVATOR FOR ACCESSIBILITY School Park Preserve in downtown Auburn, California, is receiving some updates, including an elevator, which will be used to help people reach the top of the park where the pickleball court is, FOX 40 reports. The court is not accessible due to the uphill terrain of the park. The city looked at installing a ramp at the park, but ultimately decided on a lift as the safest option.
