Excluding certain one-off items, Otis registered earnings of US$.96 a share, just shy of the average Wall Street estimate of US$.97, as per FactSet. Read more here | | | KONE'S THIRD QUARTER PROFIT BELOW EXPECTATIONS DUE TO CHINA SLUMP | | | KONE will focus on modernizing and servicing existing lifts as it sees no end to China's construction slump and has reported third-quarter profit below expectations, Reuters reports. China — the company's main market — is in a property downturn with few signs of revival. KONE recently announced a new global strategy refocusing on modernization and service instead of selling equipment for new buildings. Read more here | | | SABINE NITZSCHE APPOINTED TÜV SÜD AG CFO | | | Sabine Nitzsche has been appointed by the Supervisory Board of TÜV SÜD AG as the new chief financial officer (CFO) and member of the Board of Management with effect from March 1, 2025. She succeeds Prof. Matthias J. Rapp, who left the company in September. Before joining TÜV SÜD, Nitzsche was CFO and member of the Executive Board at Vitesco Technologies. Between 2021 and 2023, she was CFO and executive vice president of the automotive business segment for Infineon. Read more here | | | FRENCH ELEVATOR FEDERATION CALLS FOR DELAY IN NETWORK SHUTDOWN | | | France's Elevator Federation (Fédération des Ascenseurs) has asked for the shutdown of the country's 2G and 3G networks to be delayed as the networks are still being used by elevator manufacturers, Data Centre Dynamics reported in October. French telcos Bouygues Telecom and Altice plan to retire their respective 2G networks by 2026, while Orange wants to switch its 2G network off next year with all aiming to retire their 3G service by 2029. Read more here | | | OTIS COMPLETES ELEVATOR MODERNIZATION AT UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL VIENNA | Otis announced on October 8 it completed a comprehensive, 10-unit elevator modernization at University Hospital Vienna — the largest hospital in Austria — with which Otis has had a relationship for more than 50 years. The upgrade resulted in reducing energy consumption by 40% and easing hospital operations through a customized destination-dispatch system integrated with the building access system. Training will cover topics of high relevance for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Read more here | | | ONE DEAD, TWO INJURED IN ELEVATOR MISHAP IN ROME | One construction worker died and two others were injured in an elevator mishap at a condominium building in the Via Delle Vergini area of Rome on October 14, Agenzia Nova reports. The workers were performing maintenance on the unit's systems and cabin when "the anchoring straps came loose" and the elevator fell from the second floor on the workers, one of whom — a 48-year-old Nigerian citizen — died as a result of the impact. The other two workers were hospitalized. Police, relevant authorities and health workers were on-site in the wake of the accident. | | | FERMATOR WINS BEST STAND AWARD AT LIFT EXPO POLAND | Fermator won the Best Stand Award at Lift Expo Poland 2024, held on October 1-3 in Warsaw. Read more here | | | HOSPITAL ELEVATOR TO BE REPLACED IN SOUTHWESTERN UKRAINE | Leaders of the nonprofit Chornomorskaya Hospital in the Odesa Oblast province of southwestern Ukraine along the northern coast of the Black Sea announced open bidding to install a new elevator occurred on November 6, Intent reports, citing the electronic procurement system Prozorro. The purchase price was expected to be UAH2.36 million (US$57,217). Read more here | | | LONDON GATE AND FRANCK MULLER LAUNCH ANOTHER DUBAI TOWER | Dubai-based developer London Gate and Swiss luxury watch manufacturer Franck Muller are launching their second branded luxury residential tower in less than a year: the Franck Muller Vantage Tower, International Business Magazine reports. Located in Dubai Marina, the 34-story structure will offer 722 residences of various sizes and amenities that include fitness centers, swimming pools, lounges, secure parking and full concierge services.
