OTIS PROVIDES VT FOR INDIA'S FIRST HIGH-SPEED RAIL LINE
On October 30, Otis showcased how its vertical-transportation (VT) equipment will enhance accessibility across six stations and one depot that are part of India's first high-speed rail line. The megaproject will use the same "Shinkansen" (bullet-train) technology that has transformed travel across Japan, and will reduce train travel time over the 580-km stretch between Mumbai and Ahmedabad to just over 2 h. NYC-based Dynasty Elevator announced that Greg DeCola III joined the team as a Qualified Elevator Inspector, expanding its capacity for inspections of vertical-transportation (VT) equipment. A third-generation elevator man, DeCola started his career in the field at D&D Elevator when he was 19 years old. He then spent three years on the consulting side of the business working with his father, Greg DeCola, at Omega Industries performing third-party VT inspection witnessing. Read more here

EESFC WELCOMES HUGH HUNTER
The Elevator Escalator Safety Foundation Of Canada (EESFC) recently welcomed Hugh Hunter, according to a post on LinkedIn. Hunter began his career in 1989 at the Northern Elevator factory. After spending 22 years in the TK Elevator organization and more than 13 years with Wurtec, he founded RCW Canada in 2025, where he continues to focus on innovation and sustainability within the elevator sector. Read more here

WISCONSIN'S BRUNO ACQUIRES U.K.'S TERRY LIFTS
Bruno Independent Living Aids, a leading provider of accessibility solutions based in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, announced on November 3 the acquisition of Terry Group Ltd. (Terry Lifts), a manufacturer of home elevators and platform lifts based in Cheshire, U.K. The acquisition strengthens Bruno's market share and expands its reach into new geographic regions and complementary product categories. Launched in 1984, Bruno is a veteran- and family-owned company that crafts made-in-the-U.S. stairlifts, scooter lifts and platform lifts from its Wisconsin headquarters. In the Lift Engineering Society of Australia's (LESA) current newsletter, LESA President Scott Hampson reflected on recent issues including code development, events, Australian recognitions and market trends such as AI. He observed the newest edition of CIBSE Guide D has been launched, providing the industry with updated best practices and technical guidance. National Elevate Day also recognizes and encourages a growing interest in the skilled trades among young people. ECNY TO HOLD TWO UPCOMING EVENTS FOR MEMBERS
The Elevator Conference of New York (ECNY) will present a Controller Manufacturer Round Table on November 25 from 5:30-9 p.m. at Maestro's Caterers. Open to ECNY members, the event will provide an opportunity to connect with leading controller manufacturers. Each presenter will host their own station, offering a focused presentation on current features, available options and upcoming products. Confirmed presenters include Claddagh Controls, Elevator Controls, Elevator Systems LLC, GAL, Motion Control Engineering, Smartrise Engineering and Virginia Controls. On December 4, ECNY will host its Annual Meeting and Holiday Party from 5-8 p.m. at Villa Barone Manor in Bronx, NY. A buffet dinner will begin at 5 p.m., and the meeting will begin at 6 p.m. Registration is available online for members only. 
 
STRONG SERVICE SALES AND MAINTENANCE FUEL OTIS 3Q EARNINGS
On October 29, Otis reported net sales of US$3.7 billion for the third quarter (3Q) 2025, with organic sales up 2% over the previous year. Organic service sales enjoyed 6% growth with strong service operating profit market expansion, increasing midpoint 2025 earnings per share (EPS) outlook for shareholders. The Farmington, Connecticut-based company's "industry leading maintenance portfolio" grew at 4%, said Otis President and CEO Judy Marks. Modernization orders grew 27%, organic modernization orders grew 14% and Otis' repair business performed well, she said. Read more here

IN MEMORIAM: NORMAN "NORM" LESLIE BENN
The Canadian Elevator Contractors Association announced that Norman "Norm" Benn, a Liverpool, U.K., native who devoted his life to improving the Canadian elevating devices industry, passed away peacefully on October 27 in Mississauga, Ontario, 2025, at age 88. Benn's professional journey began as an apprentice mechanic in the U.K., followed by several years of work in West Africa before settling in Ontario, Canada. Through his hard work, leadership and deep sense of integrity, Benn rose to become chief inspector for the Government of Ontario. After his distinguished public service, Benn continued to share his knowledge as a consultant, trainer and past chairman of the Norm Benn Training Centre in Markham, Ontario, where he mentored generations of mechanics and engineers. Among his proudest achievements were the licensing of elevator mechanics in Ontario, his contributions to the development of CSA B44.2 Code, as well as design improvements for elevator door locks and training mechanics for the EDM-B, D and F licenses. A celebration of Benn's life will be held on November 15 from noon to 2 p.m. at Glen Oaks Funeral Home, 3164 Nine Line, Oakville, Ontario.

BELARUS MODERNIZES 200 ELEVATORS IN AZERBAIJAN IN 2025
Natalia Petkevich, Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus, during the 15th meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation, which was established in 2004, between Azerbaijan and Belarus, praised the commission's efforts in Azerbaijan across a variety of sectors, including vertical transportation, AZERTAC reports.  Read more here
 
MASSACHUSETTS FIRE DEPARTMENT RECEIVES GRANT FOR ELEVATOR RESCUE TRAINING
The New Bedford Fire Department (NBFD) in Massachusetts was recently awarded US$68,000 in federal grant funds to boost training on rescuing people from stalled elevators, according to the City of New Bedford. The grant will allow for experts on elevator rescues to be brought in to train the firefighters. This will help the NBFD meet training standards established by the National Fire Protection Association. Read more here

OTIS' MARKS ATTENDS JPMORGAN CHASE RIBBON-CUTTING IN NYC
Otis President and CEO Judy Marks joined JPMorgan Chase for a ribbon-cutting ceremony in October for its new 1,289-ft-tall supertall headquarters (HQ) at 270 Park Avenue in Midtown East, Manhattan, NY. Designed by Sir Norman Foster of Foster + Partners and developed by Tishman Speyer, the 60-story tower is served by Otis elevators with Jaros, Baum and Bolles among vertical-transportation (VT) consultants. On an earnings call in October 2025, Marks said Otis installed 89 VT units at the HQ, including 72 high-performance SkyRise® traction elevators and 12 escalators. In addition, Otis introduced its Compass® Infinity AI destination-dispatch system, which continuously learns and optimizes passenger flow. "We're proud to support JPMorgan Chase at this landmark site and beyond," Marks said.

KONE AND PARTNERS LAUNCH SMILE ON WHEELS PROJECT IN INDIA
KONE, in collaboration with Smile Foundation, has launched the Smile on Wheels mobile clinic project in Delhi, India, to provide primary medical care to 90,000 individuals across 14 urban colonies and localities in the city, The CSR Universe reports. Equipped with a qualified MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery) doctor, paramedical staff and basic diagnostic facilities, the mobile clinic offers free outpatient consultations and medicines, along with point-of-care services. SCHINDLER RETURNS TO CIIE AS IT MARKS 45 YEARS IN CHINA
Swiss elevator manufacturer Schindler is looking forward to the 8th edition of the China International Import Expo (CIIE) as the OEM marks 45 years in China, Xinua reports. This year's CIIE, which bills itself as the "world's first import-themed expo," is planned on November 5-10 at the National Exhibition and Convention Centre in Shanghai with the aim of serving as a platform for foreign companies to showcase their products and innovations to the Chinese market. KSU STUDENTS AGAIN PARTICIPATE IN TKE PITCH COMPETITION
Kennesaw State University (KSU) students again participated in the TK Elevator (TKE) Pitch Competition, a highlight of KSU's Professional Sales program, at TKE's office and test tower in Atlanta, Georgia. During the fourth annual challenge, each student had 60 s to pitch their personal brand to company executives while ascending 420 ft in Atlanta's fastest elevator. The competition began with 28 contestants, but only the top four finalists advanced to the final round, held in the TKE production studio. Read more here

TWO KONE JOBS IN BRONX, NY

In the 1500 block of Bryant Avenue is Bryant Avenue Apartments, a seven-story, 12-unit residential building for which the affordable housing lottery launched in September, New York YIMBY reported.  FIVE OTIS ELEVATORS FOR HISTORIC SAN FRANCISCO BUILDING
Working with longtime partner Plant Construction, Otis will install five Gen3TM elevators with Compass® destination-dispatch technology at 100 McAllister Avenue, a historic 28-story San Francisco tower originally designed by Timothy Pfleger and built in 1930, Otis announced during its third quarter 2025 earnings conference call on October 29. Slated for completion in 2028, the larger project involves Plant remodeling the structure and incorporating seismic upgrades for the University of California (UC) School of Law. Read more here
GLASS ELEVATOR PROJECT FOR BALI BEACH SUSPENDED
Authorities in Bali, Indonesia, have ordered a halt to construction of a controversial glass elevator at Kelingking Beach after widespread criticism over environmental damage, safety issues and alleged permit breaches, yahoo is among outlets to report. Construction on the 182-m-high structure began in July 2023 and is reportedly 70% complete, but the Bali Regional House of Representatives' Special Committee on Spatial Planning, Assets and Licensing has found that the project violates national land-use and coastal zoning laws. ELEVATOR FATALITY ABOARD CRUISE SHIP OUT OF THE U.K.
A Filipino crew member of the Arvia cruise ship, which belongs to Carnival subsidiary P&O cruises, died on October 26 in an elevator accident when the ship was en route from Southampton, U.K., to Bridgetown, Barbados, Cruise Blog is among outlets to report. P&O Cruises confirmed the incident and said in a statement the crew member was crushed. Read more here 
 
 29 OTIS VT UNITS FOR SOBHA SEAHAVEN IN DUBAI MARINA
Otis has secured a deal to equip Sobha Seahaven, a three-tower luxury residential development overlooking Dubai Marina and the Arabian Gulf in Dubai, U.A.E., with 29 vertical-transportation (VT) units, Otis President and CEO Judy Marks said during an earnings conference call in October. The VT system will include 25 SkyRise® and four Gen2® machine-room-less, high-speed elevators, as well as Otis' EMS PanoramaTM 2.0 elevator management system, Marks said. Read more here
