The Elevator Conference of New York (ECNY) hosted a successful Controller Manufacturer Roundtable at Maestro's Caterers in Bronx, NY, on November 20. Mitsubishi Electric Corp. announced it has completed the acquisition of all shares of AG MELCO Elevator Co. The London-based, community-focused architect practice Freehaus has been selected to co-develop the proposed Grenfell Tower memorial in north Kensington, West London, working with the bereaved and survivor families of the 2017 tragedy, along with landscape architect BCAL, engineer Elliott Wood, town planner Tibbalds and lighting designer Michael Grubb Studio, Architects' Journal reports. Freehaus is also collaborating with access and inclusion consultant, Jayne Earnscliffe, writer and poet Yomi Ṣode and engagement lead Social Place, to ensure the memorial "is truly community-led and creates positive and meaningful opportunities for those most impacted by the tragedy." According to the Grenfell Tower Memorial Commission, the memorial will reflect "the aspirations and priorities" that the community has already shared, such as how to incorporate "height, water, light, art and names" into the memorial, how it is used and inclusion of materials from Grenfell Tower. Work to take down Grenfell Tower began in September. The process is due to take two years. An exact timeline for developing the scheme is not yet known, but it is now hoped the final design will be revealed by the middle of 2027.

Chicagoland's Colley Elevator Co. recently wrote about the financial implications of Illinois' planned adoption of A171.1 2022 Door Lock Monitoring (DLM) safety code. Since there is no provision for grandfathering in older equipment, the change will affect nearly all Colley customers. As currently written, once the Illinois Joint Committee on Administrative Rules approves A171.1 2022, elevator contractors and inspectors must adhere to it. According to industry sources, Hyundai Elevator broke ground in November on a three-story vertical-parking-style vertiport testbed, dubbed "H-PORT," at its headquarters (HQ) in Chungju, North Chungcheong Province, South Korea Pulse reports. The facility is scheduled for completion by June 2026. Unlike conventional flat-surface heliport-style vertiports, which require large open areas, Hyundai's model adopts a stacked design — with the takeoff and landing pad on the upper level, maintenance and charging on the middle level and passenger lounges on the lower level. The NYC Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) tells ELEVATOR WORLD Chicago-based Mid-American Elevator provided two elevators for accessibility projects at St. Albans Long Island Railroad (LIRR) station and Auburndale LIRR stations, both in Queens, NY. Mid-American worked with a joint venture of Citnalta/Scalamandre and Parsons Transportation Group on the projects, made possible by support from the Federal Transportation Administration to make the stations compliant with the American with Disabilities Act. WEST VIRGINIA COURTHOUSE ELEVATOR REPLACEMENT/REPAIR UNDERWAY
Repair and replacement of the elevators in the Harrison County Courthouse in Clarksburg, West Virgina, is currently underway, The Exponent Telegram reports. Crews from Schindler Elevator Co. are working to replace one elevator, while also working to troubleshoot the issues that have caused the other elevator to be out of order intermittently. BALI GLASS ELEVATOR PROJECT SHUT DOWN, TO BE DEMOLISHED
Bali Governor Wayan Koster has officially called for the controversial Kelingking Glass Elevator Project to be demolished after major building violations were recorded in the last month, The Bali Sun reports. Project officials have six months to deconstruct and demolish all structures connected to the Kelingking Glass Elevator. Construction was officially halted earlier in November. A subsequent investigation found five violations, giving the government the authority to close the project down.
