Switzerland-based Schindler, which ranked No. 123 on the list of 500, said when announcing the honor in June that it is proud of the achievement, but pointed out its score of 68.79 (out of 100) "shows the distance even the most dedicated companies have to go to be truly sustainable." Read more here KONE INSTALLS 56 ESCALATORS AT MAJOR NEW PARIS METRO STATION KONE announced it provided 56 escalators as part of the vertical-transportation system at the new Saint-Denis-Pleyel station in Paris. The station is part of the Grand Paris Express, a major infrastructure project that expands the French capital's metro network. The future terminus of line 14, the Saint-Denis-Pleyel station opened this month just ahead of the Olympic Games Paris 2024. Read more here TfL MULLING VT UPGRADES AT EAST LONDON RAIL STATION Transport for London (TfL) is considering vertical-transportation (VT) upgrades and more at the Pontoon Dock Docklands Light Railway station in East London, Ian Visits reports. TfL filed an application with Newham Council asking permission to undertake the upgrades, which would include retaining the bulk of the station and adding six escalators from the ground to the platform level. These brakes are designed to apply when unintended travel of the car occurs. These brakes are an alternative to a rope gripper when performing a modernization job which requires lifting or moving a drive or extra construction to the elevator. Advertisement | | | WILDECK PROVIDES MEDIA PLATFORMS FOR RNC Wildeck, Inc., a material handling equipment manufacturer, will design and manufacture structural steel platforms (mezzanines) for the upcoming 2024 Republican National Convention (RNC) on July 15-18 at the Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. In partnership with Morrison Company, a systems integrator in the material handling and storage industry, Wildeck has delivered two custom-designed platforms to support the media suites and additional smaller platforms for TV camera equipment. The media suite platforms, 975 ft2 and 1,450 ft2 in size, were designed to fit within the shape of the arena bowl, while the camera platforms were engineered with high rigidity to ensure stable televised coverage. Morrison Company and Wildeck has a history of similar projects, including the 2016 Republican National Convention in Cleveland. Wildeck's platforms for the event were manufactured using U.S. steel, and local union labor was employed for the installation. | | ADA-COMPLIANT ELEVATORS COME TO TWO MORE LIRR STATIONS The NYC Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) announced on June 28 it has made the Long Island Rail Road's (LIRR) Amityville and Lindenhurst stations accessible to all in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Crews have completed building, testing and activating elevators connecting from the street to both stations, which are elevated some 200 ft above street level. MTA tells ELEVATOR WORLD the elevator provider for both stations was Bohemia, NY-headquartered Citnalta-Scalamandre, J.V. (CSJV), which announced in 2022 it had received a notice to proceed by LIRR and MTA Construction & Development on design/build services for ADA upgrades at nine stations, including Amityville and Lindenhurst. CSJV is working with Freeport, NY-based Peter Scalamandre & Sons, Inc., on the upgrades. The MTA has made three stations on the Babylon Branch fully ADA accessible since May, when it completed similar upgrades at Copiague. FATALITY REGISTERED IN INDIA APARTMENT BUILDING A 68-year-old man died after he accidentally slipped and fell into an elevator pit in Hyderabad, India, on July 2, The Siasat Daily reports. According to reports, it is suspected that the victim unintentionally opened the door to the lift shaft without realizing that the lift had not arrived, resulting in a fall. Subsequently, the lift descended and landed on him, causing his death. The victim was a resident of Bodupppal and was visiting a relative's house to attend a memorial service in the apartment complex where the incident occurred.
