Bruce MacKinnon for advertising. | | | SUBMIT YOUR PROJECT FOR THE EW PROJECT OF THE YEAR AWARDS | | | Submissions are now being accepted for the ELEVATOR WORLD 27th Annual Project of the Year Awards. We are seeking submissions of projects featuring vertical, horizontal or inclined transportation systems with an innovative design, special application or approach that solved a major problem or overcame a unique challenge. Projects will be judged on innovation, originality and creativity, challenges overcome, installation methods and techniques and use of advanced technology and overall quality of presentation. This year's categories are Elevators, New Construction; Elevators, Modernization; Escalators, New Construction; Escalators, Modernization; Moving Walks; Inclined Elevators; Platform Lifts & Stairway Chairlifts; Private-Residence Elevators; and Special-Purpose Lifts. All entries will be judged and categorized as received by an impartial panel of experienced industry experts and professionals. Winning entries will be published in the January 2025 issue of ELEVATOR WORLD. Winners in each category will be acknowledged with an award of recognition. The submission deadline is September 30. | | | IAEE ISSUES CALL FOR ELEVCON PAPERS | | | The International Association of Elevator Engineers (IAEE) has issued a call for papers for Elevcon 2025, the 24th international congress on vertical-transportation technologies. The three-day congress and exhibition will be held on June 16-19, 2025, in Lisbon, Portugal. Experts are invited to share their expertise with industry colleagues by presenting a paper. Read more here | | | GRÃœNINGER TAKES ON NEW ROLE AT CEDES | | | Part of CEDES Group since 2011, Peter Grüninger recently took on a new role with the Switzerland-based company: customer success manager, joining the sales team. Grüninger previously led the Application Engineering/Development department, a role he held for more than 12 years. He now actively accompanies customers during the test phase of CEDES elevator products, ensuring products can be applied successfully on a larger scale. Read more here | | | BUCHER HYDRAULICS CEO ROLE PASSING FROM WALLER TO MÃœHLON | | | The CEO role at Bucher Hydraulics, the Klettgau-Griessen, Germany-headquartered provider of hydraulic components including elevator drive systems, is passing from Daniel Waller to Frank Mühlon, effective July 1. Waller is retiring after leading Bucher Hydraulics since 2004, transforming the division of Bucher Industries into a globally recognized player in the hydraulics market. Read more here | | | EFESME MEMBERS TAP LEADERS, DISCUSS FUTURE IN BRUSSELS | Members of the European Federation for Elevator Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (EFESME) elected leaders and discussed the future of the Federation during its Board of Directors meeting and General Assembly in Brussels, Belgium, on June 25. Massimo Bezzi of Italy was re-elected president, and Damyan Petrov of Bulgaria was elected vice president (VP). Read more here | | | TKE SECURES LANDMARK ELEVATOR SERVICE CONTRACT IN DENMARK | TK Elevator's (TKE) Universal Service platform was a key factor in securing a service contract that includes approximately 3,000 elevators across Denmark. TKE on June 20 announced the landmark achievement, representing the largest service tender ever secured in Europe. The contract was awarded by Denmark's State and Municipalities' Procurement Service. The comprehensive agreement covers facilities that include the Danish Parliament, the Royal palaces, the Royal Danish Theatre in Copenhagen and many ministries. Read more here | | | SEVERAL VT COMPANIES AMONG WORLD'S MOST SUSTAINABLE 2024 | | | Several vertical-transportation (VT) companies are on the World's Most Sustainable Companies of 2024 list produced by TIME and data firm Statistica. Switzerland-based Schindler, which ranked No. 123 on the list of 500, said when announcing the honor in June that it is proud of the achievement, but pointed out its score of 68.79 (out of 100) "shows the distance even the most dedicated companies have to go to be truly sustainable." Read more here | | | KONE INSTALLS 56 ESCALATORS AT MAJOR NEW PARIS METRO STATION | KONE announced it provided 56 escalators as part of the vertical-transportation system at the new Saint-Denis-Pleyel station in Paris. The station is part of the Grand Paris Express, a major infrastructure project that expands the French capital's metro network. The future terminus of line 14, the Saint-Denis-Pleyel station opened this month just ahead of the Olympic Games Paris 2024. Read more here | | | SOUTHWESTERN GERMANY'S ALOIS KASPER EXPANDS FOOTPRINT WITH ACQUISITION | Alois Kasper GmbH, founded in 1945 in the western German state of Saarland, announced it has acquired Trierer Aufzugbau Baasch und Didong GmbH, further expanding its footprint in the Saarland-Rhine-Main area, effective July 1. Alois Kasper, a KONE subsidiary since 2017, said the move enables it to meet growing demand for "high-quality elevator solutions and services in the region." Now in its second generation of family leadership, Trierer Aufzugbau was founded in the 1950s and is known for its "outstanding achievements in the manufacture, installation and performance of high-quality, customer-specific elevator solutions." Read more here | | | MISSING BOLTS LED TO DEADLY STOCKHOLM CONSTRUCTION ELEVATOR COLLAPSE | Missing bolts caused a construction elevator to collapse in a Stockholm, Sweden, suburb in December 2023, killing five people, the Swedish Investigation Authority determined, the Associated Press is among outlets to report. The deadly crash "was caused by failure to perform relevant safety inspections of the hoist assembly," the Authority observed. Read more here | | | SCHINDLER ENTERS AGREEMENT TO SOURCE, ASSEMBLE AND INSTALL ELEVATORS IN EGYPT | Schindler has partnered with the Arab Organization for Industrialization (AOI) and the Talaat Moustafa Group (TMG) to establish a localization program that will source, assemble and commission selected elevator components for various regional development projects of the Ministry of Housing in Egypt. AOI and TMG will establish a facility where Schindler will assemble and commission the elevators. LEEA observes the benefits of participating include motivating and rewarding a team and networking at the LEEA Awards Ceremony, planned on October 16 at the iconic Dorchester Hotel in London. Read more here | | | 25-YEAR-OLD FALLS TO HER DEATH DOWN ELEVATOR SHAFT IN ITALY | A 25-year-old woman fell four stories down an empty elevator shaft to her death in Fasano, southern Italy, on July 1, Unilad is among outlets to report. The incident occurred in an apartment building. When the woman called the elevator on the fourth floor, the doors opened but the lift cabin was not there. Read more here | | | 26 OTIS VT UNITS FOR REDEVELOPED LONDON OFFICE TOWER | Otis announced in June it installed 26 vertical-transportation (VT) units — 15 Gen2® lifts, seven platform lifts and four LinkTM escalators at One Exchange Square, a redeveloped, 13-story, 1990s office building on the Broadgate Campus in London. The elevators will feature Internet of Things connectivity with Otis ONETM, along with the Compass® 360 destination-dispatch system and the EMS PanoramaTM 2.0. elevator-management system. Read more here | | | LINDGREN NAMED KONE AMERICAS SVP — FINANCE | Kenneth Lindgren has been named senior vice president (SVP) — Finance, for KONE Americas, headquartered in Lisle, Illinois, KONE announced. In this role, Lindgren will lead the KONE Americas finance team, driving financial goals across the U.S., Canada and Mexico. He has been with KONE for nearly 20 years, most recently serving as VP, Alliances & Acquisitions, for KONE globally.
