Read more here | | | KONE INTERIM EVP ROLES TO CONTINUE THROUGH MARCH 2025 | | | KONE announced on December 9 that two interim executive vice president (EVP) roles announced in December 2023 will continue until the end of March 2025. They are interim EVP for Europe Nicolas Alchal and interim EVP for Strategy & Transformation Kaori Uehigashi. The EVP Europe role will transition back to Karla Lindahl by early April 2025 after she returns from parental leave. Read more here | | | SECOND LIFT EXPO ITALIA HELD | | | The second Lift Expo Italia was held in Milan, Italy, on December 4-6, 2024, by the Italian National Association of Elevator Components Industries (ANICA). Organized for the second time by ANICA, the umbrella organization of leading Italian manufacturers in the lift industry, the event attracted great attention. One hundred and thirty-five companies from 12 countries opened stands. Most were Italian, followed by companies from Germany, Türkiye and China. Read more here | | | SCHINDLER CEO ROLE TO TRANSITION FROM NAPOLI TO COMPAGNA | | | The Board of Directors (BoD) of Schindler Holding Co. announced on December 12 it has appointed current Chief Operating Officer (COO) Paolo Compagna as CEO, effective April 1, 2025. He will fill the role most recently held by Silvio Napoli, who will work with Compagna on the transition until the shareholders meeting on March 25, 2025. This is the third straight assessment in which Otis achieved the Gold rating — ranking in the top 5% of the more than 130,000 companies assessed by the platform. Built by Nordic construction company NCC, the new complex will be served by 15 MonoSpace® 700 DX machine-room-less, two MiniSpaceTM DX high-speed passenger and three Transit DX freight/passenger elevators. Read more here | | | ROYAL PALACE OF NAPLES INTRODUCES INTERACTIVE VIRTUAL ELEVATOR EXHIBIT | Starting December 19, the Royal Palace of Naples in Italy is offering visitors The King's Elevator, an interactive video installation that takes visitors through four centuries of the history of the palace and life at court, Finestre sull'Arte reports. The installation allows visitors to select through an interactive virtual elevator a floor for each century, from the 17th century to the present day, accompanying viewers in a visual narrative. Read more here | | | YEAR-LONG CONSTRUCTION CLOSES TWO PRAGUE METRO STATIONS | | | Prague Transport Company (DPP) announced that the Českomoravská and Pankrác metro stations in Prague closed on January 6 for approximately a year for construction of extensive upgrades, reports Radio Prague International. Passengers can use Vysočanská instead of Českomoravská and Pražského povstání instead of Pankrác, with connections provided by train line 19. Read more here | | | TKE REPORTS RECORD FINANCIAL RESULTS WITH SALES GAINS DRIVEN BY EOX | TK Elevator (TKE) reported record financial results for fiscal year (FY) 2023/24 with EUR9.3 billion (US$9.6 billion) in sales and EUR1.5 billion (US$1.55 billion) adjusted EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization). Announced on December 23, results showed organic sales were up 7% across all business lines and units globally, driven by strong service growth and double-digit growth in the Modernization and Americas business segments. Read more here | | | OUT-OF-ORDER LIFTS AT DUTCH TRAIN STATIONS LEAVE WHEELCHAIR USERS STRANDED | Out-of-order elevators at train stations across the Netherlands are leaving wheelchair users stranded on a platform or causing them to miss their trains, the NL Times reports on RTL Nieuws's interview with 22-year-old Yira Bes, who uses a wheelchair. "It is simply not indicated properly, which means that I often find myself at a station and cannot get off the platform," said Bes. Read more here | | | KONE WINS ORDER FOR NEW WORLD'S TALLEST RESIDENTIAL BUILDING | KONE Corp. has won an order to provide a suite of People Flow® solutions for the world's tallest residential structure, called Burj Binghatti Jacob & Co. Read more here | | | ALIMAK INVESTS IN ROBOTICS TECHNOLOGY FOR BUILDING MAINTENANCE | Alimak Group and Skyline Robotics announced a five-year exclusive agreement on December 19 to develop automated Building Maintenance Units, or BMUs, for permanent façade access. Sweden-headquartered Alimak, which also designs and manufactures rack-and-pinion elevators, is investing a minor, undisclosed amount in Skyline Robotics, based in Tel Aviv, Israel. Read more here | | | EIFFEL TOWER EVACUATED DUE TO ELEVATOR FIRE | On December 23, approximately 1,200 tourists were evacuated from the Eiffel Tower in Paris following reports of a fire in one of its elevator shafts, MSN is among outlets to report. The incident was caused by an elevator cable overheating between the first and second floors, according to reports. Read more here | | | PETERSBURG SUBWAY GRAND OPENING ENDS IN VT MALFUNCTION | Gorny Institute, the first Petersburg, Russia, subway to open in five years, was unveiled on December 27 to swift failure at its inauguration, due to vertical-transportation (VT) issues, reports MSN. Just 6 min after the station was inaugurated, the escalators broke down. The escalators going down stopped first, and 2 min later, those going up also stopped functioning. Read more here | | | HOSPITAL ELEVATOR FALL IN GREECE LEADS TO INJURIES | An investigation has been launched following an elevator accident on January 9 at Athens' Red Cross Hospital in Athens, Greece, where four people were injured, ekathimerini.com is among outlets to report. During the incident, the elevator fell from the second floor. Four were injured in the fall, including two paramedics from a private ambulance service, a patient and the patient's escort.
