EARLY BIRD REGISTRATION AND SPEAKER ABSTRACTS FOR ELEVCON IN LISBON
Organizers of ELEVCON 2025, the leading congress for elevator engineers and vertical-transportation (VT) industry professionals presented by the International Association of Elevator Engineers at the Altis Grand Hotel in Lisbon, Portugal, on June 17-19 announce that early-bird registration and speaker abstracts are available. DALLAS-BASED PRESTIGE ELEVATOR ACQUIRES HIGH TECH ELEVATOR

FERMATOR INVESTS EUR4 MILLION TO UPGRADE FACTORY IN 2024
Fermator Group, the global manufacturer of automatic elevator doors headquartered in Reus, Spain, announced on February 5 it invested more than EUR4 million (US$4.1 million) to modernize logistics and production during 2024. Mayr power transmission opened a production facility in Halol near Vadodara in the state of Gujarat in India at the end of 2024, making this the fourth for the company in addition to the headquarters in Mauerstetten in Bavaria, Germany, Ostrzeszów in Poland (1994) and Zhangjiagang, China (2006). KONE AWARDED 'A' SCORE FOR CLIMATE ACTION FROM CDP
The Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) awarded KONE an "A" for action for climate and environmental transparency. Data reported through CDP's 2024 Climate Change questionnaire showed that KONE is among the few companies out of 25,000 surveyed to earn an "A." KONE's climate pledge committed the company to a 50% reduction in emissions compared to 2018 and to being carbon neutral by 2030. Read more here
 
CECA REACHES OUT TO MEMBERS IN LIGHT OF TARIFF UNCERTAINTY
The Canadian Elevator Contractors Association (CECA) is reaching out to members regarding the uncertainty of possible future tariffs, encouraging them to review existing and new business contracts to ensure they include applicable provisions. One suggestion is to include provisions for price adjustments due to changes in taxes and customs duties; another is to decrease the timeframe for which quotes are valid. Read more here
TKE SECURES STRATEGIC PROJECTS IN EGYPT'S NAC
TK Elevator announced on February 13 it secured orders for a total of 185 vertical-transportation units in Egypt's New Administrative Capital (NAC). This includes a milestone contract win with a repeat customer — the National Bank of Kuwait (NBK) — for a total of 17 enta300 and meta100 elevators for its Egypt head office in the NAC. In 2019, TKE supplied NBK's Kuwait City corporate headquarters with 10 sets of TWIN elevator systems and other mobility solutions. Read more here
 
NEW ELEVATOR INSPECTION CERTIFICATE REVEALED FOR NORTH CAROLINA
Luke Farley, North Carolina's Labor Commissioner, has revealed the new elevator inspector certificate, featuring his picture, The Carolina Journal reports. The first of the new certificates was installed in the Department of Labor building with plans to install them across the state whenever an inspection is needed. Farley said, "My priorities for elevators in North Carolina are both safety and accountability. The people of North Carolina deserve to know who is accountable to them for elevator safety. That's why I made a promise during this campaign to bring back the commissioner's picture to the certificate because I wouldn't put my name or my signature or my picture on a certificate unless I was willing to stand behind the work of the department."

KLST ACQUIRED BY PRIVATE EQUITY FIRM MITION

METRO ANNOUNCES MODERNIZATION PROJECT
The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority, commonly referred to as Metro, announced the beginning of a new modernization project on February 10, reports DC News Now. The project will take place over the next four years and will include the modernization of 27 elevators across more than a dozen Washington, D.C., stations to improve reliability. Read more here

ELEVATOR FALLS AT IHC BUILDING
A lift at the Islamabad High Court (IHC) premises in Islamabad, Pakistan, fell from the second floor to the ground floor on February 6, marking the second elevator-related incident at the courthouse in recent days, The Express Tribune reports. The elevator had seven individuals inside, but all occupants were safely evacuated. Court officials have not released a statement regarding the cause of the malfunction, but concerns about lift safety in the building have grown, the source reports. Read more here
 
KEY CITY THEATRE GAINS FUNDS TO INSTALL ELEVATOR
Key City Theatre in Cranbrook, Canada, has officially begun its renovation project to add an elevator, making the upper parts of the theater more accessible, reports Cranbrook Daily Townsman. The elevator installation was made possible by the theater's Dreams Come True Raffle that raised CAD35,940 (US$25,160), along with CAD200,000 (US$140,014) invested by the Department of Canadian Heritage. WATER EXPOSURE CAUSING ESCALATOR CLOSURES AT BOSTON AQUARIUM STATION
Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) says prolonged water exposure caused extended escalator closures at a key entrance of the Aquarium stop on the Blue Line in Boston, MSN reports. The entrance's escalators have been down since last year, causing frustration amongst passengers who must climb 61 steps if they want to use the specific entrance and exit. Read more here
 
ODESA PLANS FOR FAST-TRACK TENDERS FOR ELEVATOR REPAIRS
The Department of Municipal Economy of the Odesa, Ukraine, City Council plans to repair several elevators in the city's multi-story buildings for a total of UAH8.3 million (US$199,300), according to the Prozorro electronic procurement system, intent reports. Specifically, the department plans to repair two elevators in building No. 65 on Kolontaivska Street, one elevator in building No. 5/1 on Yaroslav Baisa (Vysotsky) Street and two elevators in building No. 193 on Balkivska Street. CTBUH CALLS FOR SUBMISSIONS FOR THE 2025 INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE
Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) is seeking abstract submissions for the CTBUH 2025 International Conference, "From the Ground Up: Tall Buildings and City-Making," by 11:59 PM CST on February 21. The conference will take place on October 6-9 in Toronto, Canada. The event will focus on the creation of tall buildings and efficient transportation systems, as well as the social and cultural networks that bind people, businesses and communities together. In the announcement, CTBUH said, "Join us in one of the world's fastest-growing urban areas to investigate the multifaceted approaches required to cultivate and transform the cities of the future — with an emphasis on meaningful development that harmonizes the myriad components of the built environment."
